Summary:

Certarus’ Regional Driver Trainer is responsible for conducting all classroom and hands-on driver training and preparing drivers for work readiness. They will ensure that new drivers are competent in proper vehicle operation and practice compliance with environmental, transportation, and health and safety requirements. The Driver Trainer will maintain collaborative relationships with all key stakeholders including operations, recruiting, transportation and compliance, training and development, and logistics teams.

Schedule:

  • The schedule follows normal business hours. Ready to support 24-hour operations.
  • The position involves daily regional travel between customer sites and Certarus’ regional hubs.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for training and in-cab practical evaluations/coaching of new and existing employees while driving as regulated by the Department of Transportation.
  • Support Certarus’ Driving Safety and Transportation Compliance Programs.
  • Assist, identify/monitor and communicate with a supervisor about drivers displaying unsatisfactory or marginal driving skills and recommend remedial actions, equipment restrictions, and other corrective measures.
  • Perform and verify route hazard assessments to ensure that drivers are avoiding existing and potential hazards.
  • Conduct pre-trip audits, and Hazmat inspections before assets depart from hub.
  • Support regional teams by reviewing driving-related Hazard IDs / BBOs, and other driving-related risk assessments.
  • Support and advocate driving safety programs and policies such as Certarus Defensive Driving Program, 360 Walk Around, and other Certarus policies and procedures.
  • Assisting in driving investigations with HSE and operational teams involving Certarus light and heavy vehicles.
  • Traveling to all Hubs identified by Area Manager as needed.

Requirements:

  • Maintain a CDL with Class A Hazmat Endorsement, along with an excellent driving record.
  • Minimum 5+ years driving in a Heavy Vehicle or previous Driver Training Role
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian Transportation regulations, dangerous goods transportation, electronic logging devices, and hours of service requirements.
  • Drive or perform assessments in a Commercial Motor Vehicle (tractor-trailer) combination, usually long distances, to transport and off-load compressed gas in a safe, timely, accurate, and courteous manner.
  • Willingness to travel to hubs and customer field sites within the region, including occasional travel outside of the region.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Capable of working in an autonomous environment; as well as collaborating in diverse teams
  • Familiar with MS Office with an aptitude to learn new computer programs and mobile applications quickly.
  • Comply with all regulatory and Certarus policies, including PPE and the use of driving safety technology.
