What else do I need to know?

• The Rural/Remote Nursing Incentive position is dependent on a three-year return of service
• The Rural/Remote Nursing Incentive supports nurses who have made an employment commitment to Northern BC remote communities
• Should a recipient of the Northern Remote incentive voluntarily leave NH during the three-year return of service agreement, they will be required to refund a portion of the incentive at a prorated rate (calculated on the basis of 1/36th of the total allowance for each month of the three-year return of service not yet served)

The General Duty Nurse works under supervision from the Nurse Manager and is responsible for the provision of direct nursing care for patients. Duties are of a diverse nature involving developing patient care programs, administering treatments, monitoring progress, and initiating interventions where required, providing educational and emotional support to patients and families, and maintaining up to date, accurate records of patient history and status.

Shift Rotation/Hours of work: Days, Nights - 07:00 to 19:00, 19:00 to 07:00, rotating

Fort Nelson General Hospital is a nine acute bed hospital with seven long-term care beds. The hospital offers experience in a rural environment that enables new and veteran nurses to consolidate and expand their knowledge and skills. Nurses have the opportunity to work as part of a diverse team to provide care in an acute, emergency, and multi-level care setting. Nurses working at the Fort Nelson Health Unit work in a similar team to provide care to clients across the health continuum. Our Primary Care model encompasses community care, mental health and additions, and public health. Primary care nurses support and collaborate with acute care nurses to enhance discharge planning to ensure we provide exceptional health services to our Northern population.

Fort Nelson is located in the northernmost region of the Rocky Mountains and has a family and recreation-oriented community of 3,366 (2021) people. The country around Fort Nelson is vast and has an abundance of rivers, mountains, hot springs and wildlife viewing for the adventure seeker. Qualifications
• Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant.
• Current C.P.R., I.V. Therapy and Blood Glucose Monitoring Certificates mandatory.
• One (1) year recent experience in assigned area of responsibility preferred.

• Demonstrated ability to deal with others effectively.
• Demonstrated physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
• Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment.
