FACULTY OF FORESTRY & ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

The Faculty of Forestry and Environmental Management offers seven degree programs in forestry and environmental management disciplines, has approximately 300 undergraduate and 90 graduate students, and 18 full-time faculty members. The D'Orangeville lab currently has 10 graduate students and conducts research on tree response to climate change.

Standard Work Hours: Mon - Fri | 8:15 am - 4:30 pm | 36.25 hours per week

Salary Range: $49,984 - $64,868 per annum

YOUR FOCUS

Reporting to the Associate Professor, the Research Assistant & Project Coordinator will oversee and coordinate research activities associated with the D'Orangeville lab. This includes planning, preparation and initiation of the TransX project, a UNB-based research project which aims to initiate multiple tree plantation trials across eastern Canada and the Eastern United States to inform climate change adaptive management.

  • Coordinate the different activities required to initiate the TransX research project.
  • Source available, existing seed lots from collaborators.
  • Coordinate seed germination, growth of seedlings and packaging with collaborators.
  • Prepare site in collaboration with local site managers.
  • Acquire and set up of site monitoring equipment.
  • Coordinate monitoring activities.
  • Help with other assigned research activities in the lab.
  • Report on activities, deliverables and timelines to researchers, industrial and government partners.
  • Manage finance of projects.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor's degree in forestry, biology, environmental science or a related field.
  • Experience in tree plantation, experimental designs, management and finance of projects.

Additional Strengths:

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
