The MSVU Library & Archives invites applications for a limited term librarian at the rank of Librarian I from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the University and the MSVU Faculty Association. The base starting salary for Librarian I is $62,082.00 per year (with changes to be determined by the new collective agreement expected later this year).

Description
Reporting to the University Librarian, the successful candidate will work closely with other academic librarians to support and promote library instruction in-person and online, and to support students with library research help services. Work will align with MSVU’s equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility efforts and its commitment to decolonizing the academy.

Responsibilities include serving as the Library Research & Instruction Services Librarian, working with the departments of the social sciences, and liaising with academic support units such as Accessibility Services, Information Technology and Services, Digital Media, Online Learning, and the Teaching and Learning Centre. This role also has a supervisory component, as the Coordinator of Library Information Services reports to this position. The successful candidate will be a member of the library management and research help teams, as well as oversee Library research help support. As per the Collective Agreement, workload includes scholarly and/or professional activity and collegial service.

The following qualifications are required:

  • a Master of Library Science (or equivalent);
  • experience delivering library research help (reference) in an academic library environment;
  • excellent oral and written communication skills; and
  • strong technical and analytical skills.

Experience in the following areas will be considered an asset:

  • background in the social sciences;
  • supervision of staff and students;
  • credit or non-credit teaching or library instruction;
  • creating and adapting asynchronous learning objects for library instruction; and
  • promotion, engagement, and outreach activities related to library research and instruction.
