The Resident Care Worker performs care while promoting the health, comfort and safety to the residents considering physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs. They strive to create a homelike atmosphere for residents and encourages their independence whenever possible. The Resident Care Worker establishes and maintains good interpersonal relationships with residents, their families, visitors and staff.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provides and/or assists with personal cares - skin, nail, hair, mouth/denture care, peri-care, bowel care and incontinent care, etc.
- Assists with selection of daily clothing and dressing
- Maintains clean environment including daily cleaning of resident's razors etc. Tidies bureaus, bedside table, makes beds; Sends clothing for repair and name tags as required.
- Assisting with ambulation - active/passive range of motion exercise, turning and positioning, assisted walks
- Collecting specimens (urine, stool, sputum)
- Spends time promoting quality care and comfort to dying residents, cares for body and personal effects after death
- Observes and reports changes in physical and emotional status of the resident to the Registered Nurse Supervisor
- Administers rectal suppositories and fleet enema's. Monitors bowel movements
- Maintains urinary drainage systems. Monitors intake and output
- Provides and/or assist with eye care, nasal care and mouth care
- Take and record temperature, pulse and respirations
- Follows TLR, GPA, WHMIS
- Functions as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Chart/documentation on flow sheet
- Provide catheter and ostomy care
- Assist with feeding residents. Provides care of persons with feeding difficulties
- Apply creams/ung. to skin
- Assist with elimination - bedpans, urinals and commodes
- Work as a team member - assists residents to and from meals, church, activities, etc.
- Attends meetings & in-services
- Reviews Kardex daily and aids in developing care plans on residents
- Other duties as required
