Position: Human Service Counsellor II:
This work involves providing care and training to clients with special needs in a residential, vocational or community-based setting. Work involves responsibility for acting as a care giver participating as a team member in developing the social, vocational, and recreational abilities of special needs clients. Working as a team member includes training and direct supervision of individuals in self-help, life and vocational skills and in the use of recreation and leisure time and providing emotional support and encouragement to clients. Duties include assisting and maintaining a clean, safe and appropriate environment: participating in individual or group activities within or outside the agency or residences: reporting any difficulties with or physical illness of clients: and encouraging independence or individuals to attend to personal needs. Duties may include taking and recording temperatures, pulse, respiration and blood pressure: preparing, administrating and recording medicines and participating in carrying out specialized treatment: transcribing doctor's orders and maintaining progress records. Duties may also include input into program and/or case planning and development in areas of socialization, counselling and teaching. Work is performed under supervision.
These duties are only basics and prime duties of the job: related and allied duties may be assigned from time to time as may become necessary to the operation of the agency and residence.
Qualifications:
THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS ARE REQUIRED
Graduation from high school supported by completion of an approved certification program at a post-secondary level specializing in special needs/Human Services counselling. Diploma or certificate in Human Services Counselling or the equivalent.
- Rate of pay as per Collective Agreement.
-Must have valid criminal record check, First Aid, CPR, and proof of education.
Note: This position is 12 hours shifts 8:00 am to 8:00 pm and 8:00 pm to - 8:00 am. This is shift work. Compressed work week.
