RESPONSIBLE ADULT - JOB DESCRIPTION
SUMMARY: The role of the RA is to work in collaboration with the child care team providing general care and supervision for school-aged children.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:
- A valid First Aid Certificate with CPR-C
- A clear Criminal Record Check
- Completion of a course, or combination of courses, of 20+ hours duration in child development, guidance, health and safety, or nutrition
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Have knowledge of and adhere to BC Child Care Regulations and TSW childcare policies and procedures.
- Maintain ethical standards of ECEBC and the Tamitik Status of Women.
- Collaborate with team members to implement a high-quality program in line with our child-led, play-based philosophy.
- Ability to work the hours/shifts based on the needs of a 24-hour centre. This may include night shifts, weekend shifts, and holidays.
- Follow guidance and recommendations received from the Child Care manager.
- Demonstrate kindness and teamwork to create and maintain an inclusive program/environment.
- Demonstrate ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
Programming:
- Have the ability and skills to develop fun and interesting activities for the children to participate in.
- Plan and organize activities for school-age children in child-care programs before and after regular school hours, as well as full day programming for weekends and holidays. Be able to facilitate group and one on one activities.
- Use developmentally appropriate practice and responsive/emergent programming to plan, implement and evaluate a range of activities, experiences, and field trips.
- Facilitate daily indoor and outdoor activities.
- Provide opportunities for children to express creativity through art, dramatic play, music, and physical activity.
- Follow the classroom’s schedule and support children through transitions in and out of the classrooms.
- Prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods.
Guidance and Supervision:
- Ensure the overall health, safety and well-being of all children enrolled in the program.
- Implement guiding and caring strategies in a positive and compassionate way.
- Use developmentally appropriate teaching and child behavior management techniques.
- Maintain attendance and health and safety checks.
- Participate in the health and hygiene practices, encourage and model safe, clean, and healthy habits and environment.
- Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioral concerns, help prepare reports for parents/caregivers.
Communication:
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Develop and maintain positive communication and interaction with children, families, and staff.
- Communicate any changes, progress, concerns and, or incidents regarding their child or the program with parents/caregivers and staff.
- Work cooperatively with staff and community resources (such as Speech Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Early Interventionists) to support inclusive practice and address the needs of individual children.
- Maintain documentation, reporting, and records. This may include children’s records, observation notes and/or progress reports for care plans.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and discussions.
Classroom Maintenance:
- Maintain cleanliness of childcare space and organization of classroom learning materials.
- Assist in the proper daily/weekly cleaning and sanitizing of our facility and equipment.
- Ensure program equipment is in good repair; record and communicate repair or replacement needs.
