2.7 JOB DESCRIPTION
2.7.4.1 POSITION: Risk Reduction Worker
HOURS: Up to 40 hours per week; must be flexible for different shifts Purpose of Position:
To provide Support for individuals referred for Cluster Living (Residential) and Community-Based Risk Reduction/Low Barrier Support Services in the Dawson Creek area. This position is designed to support individuals who are experiencing mental health and addiction issues and face homelessness and risk as a result of this. Activities will promote stability and offer opportunities for supported work, social development, community access, and pro-social activities). Scope of Position:
Reporting to Independence Networking Services Risk Reduction Coordinator. The model of supports follow a harm reduction approach, are individualized, flexible and require safeguards to reduce an individual’s vulnerability to risk and harm. The range of supports will include: mental health and addiction; criminal justice; self-harming and at risk behavior; cultural awareness, and supporting individuals to access community services. The concepts of the Circle of Courage Model are an integral component of this service (Belonging, Mastery of Skill, Independence, and Generosity).
Responsibilities:
1. Home and Community - Deliver services at the community level
Activities
 Facilitates Individual’s interaction to increase/enhance community inclusion following a model of partial participation
 Maintains open communication with community resources, professionals, and agencies (within the bounds of confidentiality)
 Interacts with others involved with supported Individual to support relationships within the community
 Supports Individual to participate in pro-social opportunities that include sports and culture, and are of interest to the individual
 Supports Individual to maintain family connections
 Supports Individual to seek work and volunteer opportunities
 Advocate alongside supported individuals within the family, CLBC, mental health, community, criminal justice system, and other agencies in the delivery of services.: attend appointments, court appearances, collaborate to enhance service experience (including detox and treatment opportunities)

2. Implement Support Services
 Participate in development of Person Centered Planning for individuals
 Support Individuals to attain goal completion of Person-Centered Goal Plan, Goals are functional and implemented in a timely fashion with measurable outcomes.
 Follow through with strategies in place for the individual that will enhance skill level and increase quality of life. These strategies must be introduced with sensitivity and discretion.
 Participate in development and implementation of Behavioral Support Plan; including data collection
 Support Individuals to develop safeguards that support health and safety concerns.
 Monitor supported individual mental health: observe and record mental health symptoms; attend all relevant appointments with medical doctor, mental health and addictions, psychiatry, court services, etc.
 Utilize professional resources and best practice principles in all aspects of communication, program development and implementation of programs
 Keep a record of all contacts with individual/family outlining activities participated in, progress and barriers, for each visit.
 Assist to facilitate groups for supported individuals to teach skills that will promote Risk Reduction.
 Ensure procedures are followed according to established standards (i.e. CARF). 3. Participate as an INS Team Member
Activities:
 Interacting and cooperating with other members of the care team
 Documenting and reporting any abuse of the supported individuals
 Carrying out all duties in a manner which provides motivation for supported individuals
 Documenting, reporting and planning of activities for supported individuals independence, social participation, and well being
 Documenting and file management - adhere to guidelines and procedures
 Act as a participating member of individual's team fostering a positive relationship with all members.
 Participate in annual performance reviews - clarifying career goals; participate in identification of personal training needs.
 Attending and participating in training workshops.
 Preparing personal work plans including goals and objectives.
 Attend all relevant meetings as requested by INS Inc.
INS – RISK REDUCTION WORKER 3
Qualifications:
 Excellent Interpersonal/Communication Skills.
 Minimum 2 years experience supporting individuals with a developmental disability; at risk behavioural difficulties, mental health issues.
 Post-Secondary education or training equivalencies in the areas of trauma and addiction, developmental disability (i.e. TLC; Foundations)
 Dependable, reliable, family and community focused.
 Valid Driver's License & Vehicle.
 Valid First Aid and CPI Certificate
Remuneration:
 $20.70 - $23.20 per hour (dependent on qualifications and length of experience as it relates to our agency culture for delivering supports)
 Pre-authorized travel, directly related to supported individual needs, outside of Dawson Creek will be paid at $.40 per kilometre to a max. of $50.00 per return trip
 Direct supported individual costs will be reimbursed in a monthly allowance according to the number of hours worked (not to exceed $75.00/month.)
