As a Rock Climbing Instructor, you will design, plan and provide instruction in recreational rock-climbing programs to help participants develop their skill base and knowledge in this area. Primary duties include:
  • Teach basic skills to participants through sharing of knowledge base.
  • Develop designs, plans, and resources for program.
  • Provide safety expertise and ensure well-being of participants.
  • Prepare and maintain equipment, supplies, and program space.
  • Maintain program records and assist with program evaluation.
 
Qualifications 
  • Minimum 16 years of age. 
  • Noncertified: at least 1 year of experience is required. 
  • Certified: at least 2 years of experience are required. 
  • Previous leadership and instructional experience in Rock Climbing is required. 
  • Previous training and knowledge of Physical Literacy will be considered an asset.
  • Strong communication skills along with demonstrated initiative, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Sound judgment in safety standards and well-developed customer service skills.

Pre-employment Requirements 

  • Current Intermediate First Aid certification (equivalent to Standard First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) level "C", and Automated External Defibrillator (AED)) is required. 
  • A valid Security Clearance with Vulnerable Sector Search must be provided. Date of completion must be within the last 12 months. 
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. 
  • Applicants may be contacted, interviewed, and hired throughout the duration of this competition. 
 
Pre-employment Drug Test:An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.

Compensation: Noncertified: $17.00 - 21.00 per hour; 
Certified: $19.00 - 24.00 per hour 
Days of Work: This position works various shifts 
including daytime, evenings, and weekends. 
Hours of work: On-Call hours vary depending on 
operational requirements.
