What will you work on?
We are seeking an experienced and independent Mental Health professional with critical thinking skills to join our team. This is a Substance Use response role where the clinician will work closely with the crisis response nurse to provide the response to clients experiencing Substance Use diagnosis. The teamwork will include community visits, ER visits, and liaising with all community providers so the individual should have excellent communication skills and ability to problem solve solutions with clients as well as have a client care focus, trauma informed lens and understand the importance of teamwork.
The Rural & Remote Adult Mental Health & Substance Use Worker functions as a member of the multi-disciplinary team, whose purpose is to ensure that adults with serious mental disorders and/or Substance Use have access to responsive, sensitive and relevant assessment and treatment services.
The program serves the adult and elderly population that experiences Mental Health disorders or Substance Use and impairment in personal, family, financial, occupational and/or social life. This includes individuals with acute psychosis, bizarre behavior, depression, anxiety, complicated grief, suicidal ideation, Substance Use, substance dependence and concurrent disorders.
The primary duties include intake assessment, crisis intervention, referral, case management, psychogeriatric support, collaborative community planning, psychoeducation with clients and their families, and liaison with appropriate professionals. Duties include urgent response intervention to individuals in acute crisis, consultation with other care providers to identify educational needs for the community and subsequent strategies to address these needs, and to coordinate services for adults and elderly with Mental Health and/or Substance Use problems.
This is a casual position working Monday to Friday 08:00 to 16:30.

Education, Training and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Health, Behavioural or Social Science related field, from an accredited university.
  • Two (2) years recent related experience in a community Mental Health and/or Substance Use setting; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current valid BC driver’s license
