Safety First Contracting is growing and is seeking a full time Safety Officer /Operations Manager to help with safety related items and manage our Western Nova Scotia operation. We are seeking an individual who has OH&S training, great communication skills, is self-motivated, creative, organized, has the ability to multitask and is able to meet tight deadlines while managing large workloads and people in a fast-paced environment. Candidate must also be able to complete tasks with minimal supervision in an organized and timely manner. Travel daily around Western NS to visit work sites and promote and enforce the safety element is a requirement.
In order to function in this position candidate must be able to meet the following criteria, to include:
- Provide proof of High School Diploma (University degree/post-secondary equivalent preferred).
- Occupation Health and Safety certification or combination of education and experience
- Experience with investigation of incidents and root cause analysis
- Experience with WCB Claims Management – Return to work program
- Investigate accidents and incidents across western Nova Scotia and report to Area Manager / Safety Manager
- Managerial experience supervising and directing staff.
- Excellent computer skills and proficient in excel, word, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style.
- Excels at operating in a fast-paced environment with a commitment to get the job done.
- Excellent people manager, open to direction and constructive criticism.
- Ability to challenge and debate issues of importance.
- Ability to look at situations from several points of view.

What will your day look like??
- Engage with employees and clients regarding job set up, health and safety and daily operations.
- Create prevention strategies for incident reduction through policy and continuous improvement.
- Developing a culture that proactively anticipates hazards, Hazard reporting and corrects unsafe conditions/actions,
- Performing inspections and reporting, ensuring corrective action and operational compliance.
- Coordinate with legislative bodies to ensure compliance with provincial standards for Traffic Control
- Foster employee engagement through positive reinforcement, behavioral based observations, safety talks, and situational awareness coaching and training.

- Some weekend work.

- Salary of $60,000 – $70,000 Annually
