Celebrating 30 years in business in 2024, MERIT Contractors Association (MERIT Nova Scotia) has been the voice of N.S.’s construction industry. Helping businesses keep a promise to their employees is a great feeling, and that is what we deliver everyday. We are one of the pre-eminent construction industry associations in Nova Scotia and we are looking for a hardworking Sales & Communications Advisor who wants to feel fantastic about the solutions and services they provide. Our focus is to continue growing our best-in-class group health benefit plan that is specific to the construction industry, as well as grow membership engagement with strong communications.

The successful candidate will proactively prospect and engage business owners and benefit plan administrators about our group health benefit plans, our psychological wellness program, and a growing portfolio of related health and retirement offerings in our primary marketplace of Nova Scotia. We also provide our services in New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland Labrador.

With a dual role as a Communications Advisor, you will review our current communications, implement new strategies and look to our current membership base for guidance.

Role Responsibilities

  • Increase the number of member companies enrolled in our group health benefit plans and other related services.
  • Providing custom benefit group health benefit plans when the situation makes sense.
  • Proactively prospecting new member company opportunities.
  • Secure appointments and meetings with prospective company owners and decision makers.
  • Creatively address customer issues and suggest solutions and options.
  • With leadership support, create a communications strategy and implement a thoughtful plan to increase our brand awareness and current membership engagement.
  • Be accountable for setting, reporting on, and achieving agreed upon targets.

Role Requirements

  • A desire to become a Nova Scotia licensed insurance agent with company financial support.
  • Must have means to travel in Nova Scotia.
  • Exceptional at building new relationships and able to connect easily in person or otherwise.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Organized and resourceful, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and a competitive desire to achieve goals and control income potential.
  • Eager to contribute, learn and grow with an experienced and high-profile organization.
  • Knowledge of current and effective communications tools is an asset.
  • Supportive of open shop values.
