The Science Explorer supports the Saskatchewan Science Centre’s mission of igniting scientific curiosity in Saskatchewan residents through the delivery of interactive, dynamic and engaging experiences.
Working alongside the Programming Team, the Science Explorer will provide a positive, engaging and amazing experience for every visitor at the Saskatchewan Science Centre. Science Explorers are key frontline personnel who develop and maintain positive relationships with our members and visitors. They are helpful, informed, and enthusiastic. Science Explorers are excited about the opportunity to interact with people and help them engage with exhibits and activities. They are naturally curious, and excited to try new ideas.
Specific Responsibilities
· Delivery of Saskatchewan Science Centre programming including:
- Demonstrations and Interpretation
- Community and Special Events
- Animal Care – The Saskatchewan Science Centre is home to a variety of animals who need regular care and maintenance. Science Explorers will assist with this care including cleaning and feeding.
- Science communication – Science Explorers inform, educate, and increase the sense of wonder about scientific discoveries and theories. This sometimes involves presenting and facilitating learning for individuals with varying learning needs.
- Cleaning and Maintenance –Science Explorers are responsible for some cleaning and maintenance tasks on the exhibit floor and to report larger issues to the Exhibit Maintenance Team.
- Program Contribution – Science Explorers are given the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of demonstrations and exhibit interpretation.
- Other duties – Science Explorers may be asked to carry out other tasks as assigned within the provision of programming.
Qualifications:
- Some post-secondary education. Applicants with a background in science, engineering, education or interpretation are ideal, but not required.
- Experience teaching or instructing a variety of age levels.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to take initiative.
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable in a constantly evolving environment.
- Curiosity and interest in science and science literacy.
- Strong presentation skills.
- Criminal Record Check w/ Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
- Be able to work on your feet for extended times.
Working Conditions
- This is a part-time position and falls under the salary grid 1.
- This position requires availability on weekends, evenings, and some weekdays. Successful candidates should be able to provide at least 15-20 hours of availability per week.

Salary: From $14.25 per hour
