SalarySUMMARY:
Reports to the teacher and provides assistance and support in the implementation of individual education programs for students with special needs. This position is supporting a French immersion program so the successful candidate must be fluent in written and speaking French.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Grade 12 graduation and possession of a Special Education Teacher Assistant Certificate, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Completion of the Provincial Outreach Program for Autism and Related Disorders Training on Autism Spectrum Disorders and Applied Behaviour Analysis.
Completion of crosswalk supervision training.
Must be fluent in spoken and written English and the Second Language. Knowledge of second language culture desirable.
Ability to be flexible to meet the varying academic, social, emotional and behavioural needs of students.
Survival First Aid Certificate desirable including sufficient medical knowledge to effectively cope with seizures.
Ability to interact with students in an effective manner.
Ability to communicate effectively using tact, discretion and diplomacy in contacts of a difficult or specialized nature.
Ability to determine, judge and select appropriate course of action within limits of established methods and procedures.
Working knowledge of behaviour management techniques and task analysis techniques.
Basic knowledge of computers.
Physical ability to perform the required duties.

Rate of pay: $31.91/hour plus and additional 14% in lieu of benefits (including vacation and stat holiday pay).
