Grounds - Seasonal Job Description
Parkwood National Historic Site was the home of Auto-Baron R.S. McLaughlin and his family. It now operates as a museum and heritage garden for the education and enjoyment of all Canadians and visitors. We hope to foster an understanding and appreciation of Parkwood’s architectural and landscape architectural features, its collection of art and furniture, and of the life, times and accomplishments of R. S. McLaughlin one of Canada’s foremost industrialists and philanthropists.
Position Summary
Do you love planning ensuring that everyone who visits Parkwood has the best experience possible? Reporting to the Grounds Supervisor, this individual who will be responsible for ensuring the landscape design of Parkwood is maintained and the grounds of Parkwood are always in the best shape possible for our guests to enjoy. This position entails moderate physical exertion in walking, standing, bending, lifting, climbing, moving or caring of equipment and supplies.
Grounds Duties
- Prune, trim, cut, mow, etc. to industry standards.
- When necessary, support as required with preparing planting designs for the various garden beds
- Planting, weeding, mulching and maintaining all garden beds
- Skimming, cleaning and chlorinating the ponds and fountains
- Operation of manual and power tools and provide necessary training for all staff
- Give direction to outside contractors when required by the Grounds Supervisor
- Reporting and/or correcting any or all physical hazards
- Diagnosis and treatment of pest or disease problems on estate plant material
- Complete snow removal duties as required
- Assist staff with setup and tear down on special events.
- Set up wedding events and co-ordinate wedding events with wedding staff.
- Care of greenhouse plants when necessary

- Support filming onsite as required
- Other duties as assigned
Grounds Supervisor Qualifications
- 2+ years of landscaping experience
- Post-secondary education in Horticulture, Landscape Design (OR sufficient experience)
- Flexible schedule

Contract length: 9 months
Salary: $18.50 per hour
