Job description

Job Overview:
Reporting to the Minster and the Church Council, the Secretary-Treasurer is responsible for office administration duties within the church office. This position requires a compassionate person with strong office management skills. Duties include supporting the Minister, the Church Council and various church committees.

Responsibilities:

· Maintains smooth functioning of the administrative duties of the church including correspondence, answering/responding to phone calls and messages in a timely manner, minute taking as required, preparation and distribution of materials to the congregation (Sunday bulletin, announcements, Link newsletter etc.)

· Participates as a member of the Stewardship Committee

· Performs bookkeeping and payroll duties including bank reconciliations; accepts and processes invoices and payments; prepares financial statements; tracks donations and issues tax receipts; prepares cheques for signature, handles petty cash

· Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner

· Performs required records reporting and remittances (including Canada Revenue)

· In conjunction with the Minister and the Church Council, organizes the Annual Meeting of the Church, compiling reports and financial statements

· Maintains the church website and Facebook account

· Manages church bookings, rental agreements, proof of insurance and receipt of rental funds

· Maintains a master schedule of internal events, committee meetings, social events etc.

· Maintains a stock of office supplies and required equipment

Qualifications:

· Post-secondary education in accounting and/or bookkeeping

· 3 years of office administration and bookkeeping; or equivalent combination of education and experience

· Strong knowledge and understanding of accounting/bookkeeping tasks

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills

· Demonstrated efficient use of the Microsoft Suite of programs, use of ADP for payroll and bookkeeping software

· Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

· Detail oriented and able to produce work with a high level of accuracy

· Ability to work as a team

· Self-starter and problem solver
