Seed Production Technician (18Mo Contract)

Sevita Genetics, one of the leading developers of soybean varieties in Canada is seeking a Seed Production Technician to assist with research activities during the upcoming field season. The successful candidate will work alongside the existing research team to bring quality soybean varieties to growers around the world.

Seed Production Technician (18mo Contract)

Primary Responsibilities:

· Work with the research team to plant, maintain and harvest soybean research plots in a soybean breeding program.

· Operate a wide range of equipment such as tractors, planters, research combines, forklifts, and sprayers.

· Assist with activities related to Certified Seed Production/Management/Certification, Variety Purification and Registration.

· Assist with seed preparation including cleaning, packaging, bagging, etc.

· Harvest and thresh individual plants using a threshing machine.

· Conduct field maintenance throughout the growing season.

· Assist with data collection.

Minimum Qualifications:

· Highly motivated with the ability to work well independently and in a team environment

· Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 25kg

· Licensed G driver

· Have sound judgment and critical thinking skills

· Organized and detail-oriented

· Mechanical and agricultural experience would be an asset, but not essential. Willing to train.

Start Date: As soon as possible (flexible, earlier start is ideal)

Job Type: Full-time, Temporary/Contract – 18-month contract with opportunity for extension.

Schedule: 40 hours/week, plus overtime during planting and harvest periods

Salary: $17.00-$22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week

Schedule:

• Monday to Friday
• Weekends as needed

Supplemental pay types:
