Your opportunity:
The Advancement Office at the Faculty of Arts & Science plays a critical role in achieving the future success of the Faculty; responsible for generating private-sector revenue to support the Faculty and all of its strategic priorities. The department cultivates and sustains strong relationships with donors, alumni, volunteers and other stakeholders worldwide.
Reporting to and under general direction of the Director of Development, the Senior Advancement Research Officer is an integral member of the advancement team and acts as a resource and provide high-level support to alumni, development, stewardship, and the advancement leadership team.
The incumbent will engage in research, interpretation, analysis and delivery of information pertaining to donors and prospective donors covering the sciences, social sciences and humanities subject areas. They will develop research plans including the identification of appropriate resources and technology; engages in proactive research activities to identify and evaluate donors and prospective donors at the # ,000 plus major gift level and focusingon principal level gift donors; identifies, or re-packages compelling Faculty priorities that are likely to be of interest to donors; contributing to the development of a strategy for approaching the donors and also in the development of a case for support with compelling projects and timelines; planning and executing research activities that align with the faculty’s development mission.
Your responsibilities will include:
-Writing comprehensive and complex donor profiles
-Conducting advanced research and analysis from a variety of sources to provide detailed background data on donors
-Determining appropriate research activities based on funding objectives
-Writing detailed analytical profiles/research documents for senior development officers to inform decision making and strategy development
-Maintaining detailed records of donor interactions to support prospect pipeline development
-Identifying prospective donors and aligning them to key priorities
-Serving as a resource on specific issues to a group of specialists
Essential Qualifications:
-Master's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
-Minimum five (5) years in a prospect research or management role.
-Experience with accountability for information management and data analytics using a CRM such as Arbor
-Experience must include prospect management/tracking, reporting and analysis, with prospect research experience desirable, preferably in an academic environment
-Experience using prospect research resources including SEDI, SEDAR, iWave, CharityCan, etc.
-Demonstrated knowledge of fundraising including major gifts, annual and planned giving
-Ability to keep pace with the high-volume and variety of requests and projects flowing into and out of the department
-Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to self-motivate, and handle multiple and competing projects under minimal supervision
-Superior computer skills including strong working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets and databases
-In-depth knowledge of prospect research and management
-In-depth knowledge of best practices related to reporting and data analytics
-Ability to work collaboratively with fundraising, alumni, DUA, academic, and administrative colleagues
-Ability to convey complex concepts and processes in an easy to understand manner
-Excellent written and oral skills and attention to detail
-Demonstrated ability to safeguard confidentiality
Assets (Nonessential):
-Knowledge of the University's financial systems as they relate to fundraising including funds, designations, source codes

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:
USW Pay Band 13 -- $83,150 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $106,336. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
