This role sits within Laurentian Bank Securities, a subsidiary of Laurentian Bank.
Reporting to the Manager of the Trade Conduct Compliance team, the individual will ensure the proper enforcement of applicable laws and regulations with respect to the securities industry, as well as internal policies and procedures of Laurentian Bank Securities. The candidate will be responsible for conducting trade-related surveillance for the activities of the Firm, which would include several lines of businesses such institutional equity and fixed income trading, full-service brokerage trading, discount brokerage and institutional services.
Responsibilities :
- Provide support and be a subject matter expert with respect to regulatory standards and support various stakeholders and business lines, especially as it relates to trade conduct compliance.
- Ensure that the sector’s procedures and guidelines are up-to-date and that supervisory tasks are conducted in accordance with internal standards and in keeping with CIRO requirements.
- Conduct trade desk reviews in accordance with internal procedures; complete all necessary reports in the completion of these reviews.
- Provide support and training to tier one supervisors with respect to their surveillance duties.
- Ensure that equity and fixed income trades are done in compliance with regulatory standards of the securities industry and market regulations.
- Conduct daily and monthly trade reviews in accordance with CIRO Requirements.
- Conduct reviews, perform analysis and then formulate recommendations to resolve any matters that might arise, all within prescribed timeframes.
- Detect situations of possible risk, complete analysis and evaluate proper risk mitigation measures, ensure the proper application of corrective measures when necessary.
- Foster good relations with the business lines and other stakeholders to ensure healthy collaboration, especially when dealing with more complex cases.
- Be prepared to formulate recommendations with respect to measures that require the adoption of new procedures, ensure proper maintenance of risk management systems, programs, policies, and procedures, all in keeping with good business practices that reduce risk and promotes operational efficiency.
- Collaborate on internal investigations.
- Participate in project committees which require compliance involvement and occasionally represent the Firm at external industry events.
Requirements
- University degree and between 4-6 years of relevant industry experience.
- At least 4 years of experience in Compliance in the securities industry and especially in trade surveillance.
- Completion of the Canadian Securities Course, Conduct and Practices Course and Trader Training Course would be an asset.
- Solid knowledge of Securities industry rules (TSX, CIRO, UMIR).
- Good knowledge of financial markets and financial instruments.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey a message diplomatically
- Knowledge of systems such as Nasdaq Smarts, Fidessa, Position Watch and Iress would be an asset
