Salary: At Wawanesa, salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive and competitive offering that we provide to our employees. The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. The salary offered is estimated to be within the following range: $83,000- $105,000. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are still encouraged to apply.

Job Overview

Working under minimal supervision and reporting to the Manager, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging, this role serves as the primary contact and partner for Wawanesa's Employee Groups (EGs) which include: Wawanesa's Employee Resources Groups which focus on Employment Equity for underrepresented groups and Employee Interest Groups & Employee Affinity Groups which enhance inclusion for all employees. This role serves as an internal and external champion on our commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace culture conducting research on best practice, creating strategies and driving tactics to advance change.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support the research and development of a comprehensive DEI strategy that aligns with the company's mission, values, and strategic goals.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with EG leaders and members to understand their needs, goals, and challenges; ensure alignment with the company's overall DEI strategy and provide guidance, resources, and support as needed.
  • Collaborate with EGs to lead and support events and initiatives to engage employees and promote awareness and understanding of diverse perspectives and experiences.
  • Conduct regular assessments and analyses to track participation and measure the effectiveness of ERG initiatives and identify opportunities for improvement and growth.
  • Assist with the development and delivery of inclusion-related content and programming for the workforce.
  • Performs research and evaluates ongoing development of DEI policies, practices and procedures; develops reports and performs moderately complex analysis to drive improvement.
  • Partner with leadership to embed diversity, equity, and inclusion principles into all aspects of the organization, including recruitment, onboarding, talent management, employee development, total rewards, and community engagement.
  • Establish measurable DEI goals and conduct regular assessments and audits to report on metrics, track progress and identify areas for improvement.
  • Provide guidance, training, and resources to leaders and employees to understand DEI concepts, its importance, and understand their personal responsibility in fostering an inclusive workplace.
  • Collaborate with internal People & Culture stakeholders to design and implement inclusive recruitment, employee development and retention strategies to attract and retain diverse talent.
  • Establish and maintain meaningful relationships with external partners, organizations, and community groups to enhance the company's reputation as a leader in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Stay informed about best practices, emerging trends, and legal requirements related to diversity, equity, and inclusion; sharing relevant information as appropriate and making recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience in health sciences or a related field. Professional designation in a related field would also be considered.
  • 4+ years of experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a proven track record of implementing successful DEI initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion concepts, issues, and best practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of leading DEI practices, policies, processes, and evaluation tools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data to inform decision-making and measure impact.
  • Strong prioritization and organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and navigate through ambiguity.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and personal growth in the field of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Able to work independently and in collaboration to achieve goals.
  • Ability to deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel PowerPoint, and Visio) required.
  • Insurance industry experience is considered an asset.
  • Fully proficient in French and English would be considered an asset.
