Senior Electrical Engineer (Team Lead)

Description

We are looking for a talented Senior Electrical EngineerTeam Lead to join our #Accelera by Cummins Business unit located in Mississauga, ON.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • This product focused position performs established technical tasks at the sub-system and/or component level for current and future products within a given business unit or corporate area.

  • This involves work across many steps in the product life cycle. Because of the product centered nature of this position, they are very often a central point of coordination and decision making between product line engineers, customer teams, systems engineers, purchasing, suppliers and manufacturing.

  • Obtains input from stakeholders such as technical managers, project leaders, other product and manufacturing engineers and supplier partners to deliver information and recommendations that lead to quality product decisions.

  • Applies academic knowledge and existing experience to take action and make decisions that progress projects forward without sacrificing project quality expectations. Examples of these decisions include day to day project details, analysis or test work instruction details, coordination across discipline areas that are necessary to make quality progress.

  • Applies and improves processes such as Engineering Standard Work (ESW), iDFMEA, Failure Incident Review Group (FIRG) and tools such as 7-step problem solving, design review checklist and other specialized tools required to support the processes and enable high quality decision making.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Product Development Execution, Monitoring and Control - Plans, schedules, coordinates and executes the activities involved in developing a product to a respectively aligned hierarchy of requirements and technical profiles; monitors and communicates across functional boundaries to meet project resource and quality expectations; ensures product capability meets or exceeds expectations and takes mitigating actions when project risks are higher than expected; understands the full product life cycle process and stakeholders.

  • Product Failure Mode Avoidance - Mitigates potential product failure modes, by identifying interfaces, functions, functional requirements, interactions, control factors, noise factors, and prioritized potential failure modes and potential failure causes for the system of interest to effectively and efficiently improve the reliability of Cummins’ products.

  • Product Problem Solving - Solves product problems using a process that protects the customer; determines the assignable cause; implements robust, data-based solutions; and identifies the systemic root causes and recommended actions to prevent problem reoccurrence.

  • Product Verification and Validation Management - Develops product systems validation plans from a variety of inputs to identify failure modes, while managing product risk and relative priority; negotiates product requirements against capability to guide project scope; evaluates analytical, simulation and physical test results to verify product capability and validate requirements; assesses legacy versus proposed system solution capabilities and produces recommendations with technical documentation to support product decisions.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:

  • Electrical Engineering discipline

  • Ontario P ENG License required

Experience Required:

  • Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making. Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred.

  • Power estimations and consumption: Estimation of power and consumption of loads. Definition of operating pro-files and operation and simultaneity coefficients in order to define power profiles, energy consumptions and define power supply interface requirements.

  • LV Components specification and standardization: Specification and selection of LV components as circuit breakers, relays, terminals, enclosures, motor starters, PLCs, distribution blocks.

  • Protection definition and coordination: Selection of protection to protect against overloads, short-circuits, over-voltage's earth faults, fast voltage, inrush currents, etc. Coordination of protection Chronometrical

  • Knowledge about components available in the market and solutions.

  • Grounding and Bounding: Definition of grounding and bounding architecture. Specification of bounding rules and requirements. Mitigation of EMIs. Mitigation of step voltages and touching potentials.

  • Sizing of grounding and bounding conductors according fault currents and minimum requirements in standards. Prevention of direct and indirect contacts.

  • Cable and conduit sizing and selection: Specification and selection of cables according the application. Calculate and size cables cross section according IEC (EU) or NEC/CEC (NA). Selection and sizing of cable conduits and trays. Preparation of cable bundles and cable routing. Definition of cable accessories (gland, terminals, connectors, pins, labels)

  • Design of electrical cabinets, switchboards and control boxes following IEC or UL/CSA standards. Preparation of panel layouts, distribution of components, heating dissipation calculations, IP/NEMA protection, Short circuit calculation or SCCR definition and testing. Panel listing, certification and marking.

  • Electrical Drafting of electrical schematics based on IEC (EU) or NFPA (NA) standards. De-sign conventions. Wiring procedures. Elaboration of SLDs, Detailed Engineering Schematics, Architecture diagrams, Material lists, Cable lists and charts, PLC charts, terminal charts, etc.

  • Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC): Understanding about electromagnetic compatibility design practices, mitigation actions and standard compliance (specially IEC 61000 series). EMC management during the design lifecycle, col-lection of requirements and corresponding validation (testing).

  • Electrical design for Explosive Atmospheres and/or Hazardous Locations: Application of ATEX/IEC (EU) or NEC/CEC (NA) standards and directives to electrical installation design. Selection of certified components according area classification and considering the adequate protection technics (Ex e, Ex i, Ex d, etc). Integration of the components following the specific rules.

  • Electrical Calculation and Studies: elaboration of electrical calculations and studies to demonstrate design compliancy with requirements, standards, rules, etc. Good understanding about typical design practices and procedures. Ability to deploy calculation tools and methods.

  • Standard investigation and interpretation: Experience using and interpreting electrical standards. Searching in-formation in regulations, directives and other official documents. Investigate about local and international requirements and its applicability to certain product. Knowledge of most common standard and certification organisms (IEEE, IEC, UL, CSA, NRTLs)

  • Design oriented to manufacturing: Experience supporting manufacturing acting as a link between design and pro-duction. Experience solving manufacturing issues in situ and providing advice. Reporting, analysis and solving of NCR/CAPAs. Change management.
