Purpose of Role

 

The Senior Environmental Analyst plays a key role in the performance of environmental initiatives and projects within the KGC Environmental & Permitting Department. Supports all environmental monitoring, (internal and external) reporting, audits, inspections, and assessments. Reports to and advises the Director Environment & Permitting. Occasional national and international travel required (about 1 week every other month, on average).

 

Key Responsibilities & Duties

 

Track, monitor, and report on environmental performance and prepare internal and external environmental and permitting reports, including monthly reports, quarterly reports.  Supports and directs initiatives for enhancing environmental performance, environmental permitting and environmental compliance across all KGC projects, sites, and mine operations. 

Specifically, the Senior Environmental Analyst:

•    Promotes a safety and environmental stewardship culture.

 

Governance
 
•    Monitors compliance with environmental legislation at KGC’s projects, sites and operations.
•    Participates in internal environmental and permitting reviews, audits, and inspections, as needed.
•    Participates in and reports on environmental risk assessments.
•    Maintains KGC’s corporate environmental management system and associated policies, standards, processes, and systems, including identification of opportunities for continual improvement.
•    Supports KGC’s financial processes for mine closure and asset retirement obligation reviews.
•    Monitors and reports on applicable global industry standards related to mining and ESG.

 

Reporting 

•    Supports development of external ESG reports and public disclosures for KGC, including the Annual Sustainability Report, and the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) reports.
•    Leads the development of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to the KGC leadership team on environmental performance and permitting activities. This includes regular engagement with KGC’s site environmental teams.
•    Consolidates, interprets and present environmental and permitting data to support internal and external reporting.

 

Training & Innovation

•    Provides EMS training. 
•    Shares best practices, learned lessons, and innovations to encourage a positive approach to environmental management, permitting and continuous improvement.
•    Directs and supervises environmental and permitting consultants, when necessary, to ensure technically sound work supporting KGC’s objectives.

 

 

Sustainability Expectations

 

Contributes to policy and procedure development in environmental management, compliance, permitting, and reclamation and closure. Ensures KGC’s work areas comply with environmental policies and regulations.  Ensures that environmental and permitting staff have the necessary training, knowledge, and resources.

 

Scope of Responsibility and Complexity

 

Highly complex work requiring industry and technical expertise, business acumen, and organizational knowledge. Work is performed with general authority and results are commonly achieved through other managers and professionals. Ability to influence team members and stakeholders.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • BSc, BASc, MSc, or MASc in Environmental Science and Management, other relevant field, or equivalent experience with increasing levels of responsibility
  • Formal professional or technical registration in appropriate area of expertise.
  • At least 8 years of experience in relevant field and recognized as expert in their field.
  • Ability to direct and manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience leading environmental audits, inspections, and reporting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communicator (orally and in writing).
  • High performance and standards for social responsibility.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and environmental management software.

 

Skill Requirements

 

  • Ability to quickly identify key technical and business issues.
  • Well-developed technical report writing and presentation skills.
  • Team player with a strong inclination towards developing co-operative solutions.
  • Must be self-directed and work well in a highly unstructured environment.
