Senior Geotechnical Engineer

The successful applicant will be a Senior Engineering Geologist / Geotechnical Engineer with a proven technical and project management track record. The role will include the execution of complex and major programs, supporting complex proposals, mentoring of junior staff, as well as act as technical reference, and therefore good communication skills are essential.

Location: Saskatoon OR Regina, SK.

Your role within the team:

Candidates should have the right flare and ability that will help us develop and expand our mining and industrial geotechnics capability by building on the existing portfolio of our rapidly expanding, flexible and outward-looking team that can tackle work across a broad spectrum of sectors.

  • Undertake geotechnical assessments, complex analysis, design calculations and detailed designs with efficient use of specialized software such as GeoStudio, Rocscience and PLAXIS.
  • Contribute to the development of project proposals/cost estimates and participate in the process of securing new business opportunities or expanding the scope of existing projects.
  • Supporting senior leadership with field evaluations, manage and contribute to geotechnical investigations and undertake design assessments and complex analysis calculations.
  • Understand construction drawings and design reports to support construction and provide guidance and troubleshooting for QA field testing and performance of materials such as soil, concrete, and asphalt.
  • Analyze and prepare recommendations and reports for projects relating to foundation design, infrastructure, shoring, retaining walls, slope stability, ground improvement, settlement and deformation analysis, seismic & liquefaction assessments, road structure design, dikes and dams, materials testing, and other geotechnical related projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal and technical skills and the ability to mentor junior engineers.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence to liaise with clients.
  • Excellent report and proposal writing skills to produce quality deliverables.

The ideal candidate:

  • Degree in civil engineering or geology with a post graduate qualification in a geotechnical subject and have a minimum of 15 years’ pertinent experience.
  • Extensive experience in one or more of the following sectors: highways, rail, municipal, industrial, mining, commercial or residential geotechnics.
  • A strong academic background with a relevant degree (ideally MSc or equivalent).
  • Professional Engineering Licence in Saskatchewan.
  • Proven experience of acting in a senior role in a fast-moving engineering consultancy environment.
  • Project management - experience and understanding of the needs and approaches to the engineering consultancy and design markets, including relationships with clients, and work planning.
  • Proven geotechnical design experience.
  • Application of Design Standards and Guidelines in a design and ground investigation environment.
  • Proven geohazards and geotechnical investigation experience.
  • Experienced in general geotechnical numerical software.
  • Excellent interpersonal and technical skills and the ability to support the development of teams.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence to liaise with clients.
  • Excellent report writing skills with the ability to peer-review and produce quality deliverables.
  • A willingness to travel on short assignments both within Saskatchewan and nationwide.
  • A valid driving license.
