As a Senior Growth Management Planner, you will work to further The City¿s vision as captured in the Municipal Development Plan by supporting sound decision making that enables strategic growth and change. You will work on initiatives related to land use planning and infrastructure planning, including supporting the Citywide Growth Strategy. You will proactively lead the development of innovative, broadly-supported solutions for growth issues with partners (including City business units, citizens, industry, and Council), implementing various City planning policies and procedures, facilitating solutions that improve the context for growth in the city, and articulating and supporting strategic growth outcomes. Primary duties include:
  • Use a perspective that incorporates policy alignment, market demand indications, and financial considerations, lead projects that support the development of strategic growth policies and process improvements that enable growth. Prepare and/or review business cases for growth related City investments.

  • Be involved in the integration of planning and infrastructure decisions with development applications.

  • Analyze growth related data, such as for market demand and financial impacts, and use it to develop evidence-based recommendations for senior management and Council.

  • Participate in the development of strategic growth policy for Area Structure Plans, Local Area Plans and citywide planning initiatives.

  • Liaise with internal and external partners who are involved in the development and citizen engagement processes.

  • Represent The City on planning matters across different development types, including new community, established and industrial/commercial areas. 
  • Respond to high priority issues, politically sensitive situations and customer service requests. 
     
 
Qualifications 
  • A degree in Planning or a related field and at least 6 years of related experience. 
  • Experience must include strategic planning, policy making, partner engagement, and process development. 
  • Experience with economic development and land development will be considered an asset. 
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities accompanied by demonstrated decision making abilities. 
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Compensation: Level E $80,640 - 121,760 per annum 
Days of Work: This position works a 5 day 
work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle. 
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
