As the Senior Mobility Policy Engineer, you will work closely with internal partners providing technical expertise, systems thinking and project management skills to City Building projects. In this position, you will be a subject matter expert that provides mentorship to other positions within the work area. Primary duties include:

  • Develop and revise City of Calgary policies, strategies, and design standards to guide decisions on public space and mobility programs, infrastructure investments, and facility designs. 

  • Manage, collaborate/support pilot projects to evaluate new technologies to support mobility options for Calgarians and to activate under-used public spaces and transportation modes in support of City policies and strategic directions. 

  • Design, review and maintain key network maps and provide subject matter expertise on application on these maps to internal and external users.

  • Monitor mobility trends and assess the effectiveness of policies, strategies, and design standards to achieve targets established in the Municipal Development Plan, Calgary Transportation Plan, Calgary Climate Strategy, Route Ahead, and other key performance indicators.

  • Prepare and/or present technical reports, including analysis and research, ensuring input from other key work areas.

  • Lead and oversee project teams.

 
Qualifications 
  • A degree in Civil Engineering.
  • You must have at least 6 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work Click here for more details.

  • Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
  • Previous experience in the Transportation/Mobility sector is required.

  • Experience with policy and strategy development, design standard development, policy implementation, leading and evaluating pilot projects, and mobility monitoring are required.     

  • In-depth knowledge of at least one Mobility Policy area (complete streets, goods movement strategies, walking, cycling, transit, accessible design, green infrastructure, new mobility technologies, etc.) including the current state of practice in Calgary, in Canada, and in similar settings is required. 
  • Experience in multiple domains will be considered an asset.

  • Experience working in a municipal government setting, communicating with the public on technical subjects, and presenting information and recommendations to Council are considered assets.

  • Success in this position requires: strong analytical, business planning and organizational effectiveness skills; an ability to lead and coordinate several strategic objectives; ability to balance technical requirements with non-technical competing priorities; and demonstrate effective communication and presentation skills.

 
Working Conditions: Mainly office environment with occasional site visits

work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
