Whitewater's Architecture team is looking for a Senior Park Designer to join our team in Richmond, BC, in the following role:

Position:Park Designer, Senior
Department: Architecture
Location: Richmond, BC
Reports to: Director of Design


Purpose:

The Senior Park Designer is responsible for the production of high-quality architecture and design work, participating with clients in waterpark planning, design workshops, detailed design of facilities, inclusion of various waterslide complexes theming design, including the AquaPlay products and various other play elements. The Senior Park Designer will also participate in the overview of the artwork done in the Design Department Team to ensure that all drawings delivered to the customer are of the highest quality.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Expresses ideas quickly and powerfully using hand drawings, sketches and graphics
  • Develops overarching theme concept for waterparks and theme parks
  • Design park buildings in accordance with the themed concept
  • Creates waterpark masterplan at scale showing key internal and functional relationships between the waterpark & attraction complexes, the water features (wave pool, lazy river, ornamental fountain, etc.), the buildings (entry, ticket, change room, washrooms, and restaurant) and the landscaping
  • Lead a design team on developing full schematic design packages
  • Make design presentations to clients
  • Make site visits and analyze physical conditions in relation to the development of a water park design that would take maximum advantage of site features
  • Take part or lead a design workshop with clients & associated consultants in the development of a water park concept design
  • Review the presentation drawings to ensure a consistent style and quality
  • Utilizes the latest trends in the leisure industry to plan and design parks, interactive play units and ride complexes
  • Draws character sketches (emphasis on hand-rendered perspectives, bird' eye views) describing specific areas of the waterpark and theme park showing themed architecture, landscape and ride complexes
  • Creates an Image Study matching a theme, using Images found on the web or in books
  • Develops new concepts to fulfill specific client needs and improves existing products
  • Contributes to a culture of development and sustenance of Continuous Improvement and Lean philosophies
  • Executes responsibilities according to lawful and ethical standards
  • Ensures regular performance feedback through quarterly coaching conversations
  • Works hard at being more present, open, interested and curious
  • Provides consistent feedback reviews & mentorship for members of the Design Department

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor or Master's degree in Architecture or Landscape Architecture
  • 10 years or more experience with Arch or Landscape Arch projects
    Proficient knowledge of graphic & presentation software Incl. AutoCAD, Photoshop, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated proficiency in hand-rendering an asset
