JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Senior Plant Engineer (Mechanical) supporting the Renewable Generation division of our organization and based in our Bowmanville
, Ontario
 location.
Reporting to the Manager of Engineering, the Senior Plant Engineer (Mechanical) will assume a lead role in providing technical advice and guidance on a variety of technical matters within designated area of responsibility for hydro-electric generating station maintenance, operations, performance, design and commissioning.
This is an exciting opportunity to work in an environment where you will contribute to OPG’s public outreach, engagement and education efforts as part of the company’s commitment to growing its social license. 
 
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 
-Plan, co-ordinate and conduct capital and OM&A work projects related to the effective and efficient long-term viability of hydroelectric & thermal facilities;
-Provide technical advice and guidance to OPG plant staff and others (both internal and external) involved in projects, assessments and maintenance;
-Conduct site investigations as necessary. Analyze previous engineering data relative to engineering design and recommend action;
-Conduct field inspections to observe, investigate, evaluate and report on plant conditions. Respond to emergency or short notice situations and provide timely advice/solutions. Identify and conduct the engineering and financial evaluation of alternatives and prepare recommendations on repair, replace, upgrade or modification procedures;
-Conduct the preparation of written requests for Capital Construction and OM&A work, including business case summaries complete with economic, technical and environmental evaluations;
-Design mechanical power equipment and/or balance of plant systems to meet client performance expectations and comply with safety, regulatory and engineering standards. Provide authorized engineering approvals in accordance with applicable legislation;
-Support field projects in the provision of specialized advice, guidance and procedures as requested involving testing, inspection, maintenance, repair and rehabilitation and return to service of mechanical power equipment, flow control equipment, and balance of plant systems;
-Deal with suppliers, manufacturers, labour representatives and government agencies on technical, commercial and regulatory issues.
 
EDUCATION 
-4 year University Degree in Mechanical Engineering
-Unrestricted Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) certification in good standing in the Province of Ontario is preferred
 
QUALIFICATIONS
-Minimum 8 years of relevant experience as a Mechanical Engineer preferred, with particular emphasis to the variety of mechanical power equipment and balance of plant systems associated with hydroelectric facilities;
-Experience with the following power plant equipment will be given preference:
-  hydroelectric turbines, generators, and governors specification, construction operation and maintenance including major unit overhauls; and/or
       -  hydroelectric flow control equipment (hydro gates, turbine inlet valves, log lifters etc.) and industrial cranes (travelling overhead, gantry, monorail, etc.) specification, construction, modernization, testing, commissioning, operation and maintenance. 
- Fire Systems, associated with both Life Safety and also with Asset Protection
-Experience conducting assessments, testing, studies, inspections, investigations, design, evaluations, construction monitoring & maintenance of mechanical works associated with generating stations;
-Requires full knowledge related to mechanical engineering design, modification or replacement of either power equipment, flow control equipment, balance of plant systems, and/or major mechanical equipment such as cranes.  Includes preparation of specifications, providing study and release estimates, inspection, assessment, and providing operation and maintenance recommendations;
-Requires knowledge with the process of procurement of equipment and materials including experience in planning, organizing and co-ordinating and work programs and maintaining control of costs, quality and schedule;
-Strong verbal and written communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills for the purposes of gathering and relaying information, resolving issues of concern, etc.
-Good organizational and leadership skills, and to be a self-starter who can work both independently and in a team environment that is dedicated to engineering excellence and best practices;
-High integrity, upholding company values including H&S, and protection of the environment;
-Experience using AutoCAD and/or Solid Works is an asset;
-Demonstrated knowledge of the OH&S Act and Regulations, especially for Industrial Establishments (Ont Reg 851) & Construction (Ont Reg 213) and various codes and standards associated with mechanical engineering and application of their requirements;
-Results and detail oriented individual;
-Valid Ontario Drivers License in good standing;
-Willingness to travel via road, airplane, float plane, helicopter etc. 25% of time;
-High integrity, upholding company values including H&S, and protection of the environment;
-Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a flexible hybrid office environment.
