About Us:
The Project Delivery Section is responsible for the delivery of many engineering services and products. Staffed by engineers, project managers, technicians and support personnel, the Project Delivery Section holds the primary responsibility for the design of highway rehabilitation, highway expansion, and safety related projects to meet current and future needs of the travelling public.

What can I expect to do in this role?

Delivering large and complex transportation projects, you will:
• manage external consultants
• work with senior management, municipalities, external stakeholders, and the public
• support the Head of Capital Planning and Program Development in developing and monitoring the 5-year program
• work cooperatively with other transportation professionals to develop programs for capital and expansion investments
• support the delivery of a regional capital program
• administer corridor investment planning activities
• provide technical engineering assessments and evaluations of land development proposals adjacent to highways
• ensure the protection of the ministry's interests

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• You are a Professional Engineer, licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
• The position requires the successful candidate to have a valid class G driver's licence or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's licence upon being hired.

Civil Engineering and Legislation Knowledge

• You have knowledge of theories, principles and practices of civil engineering related to highway engineering.
• You have working knowledge of related fields including geotechnical, pavement design, structural, drainage, surveys, electrical, traffic, and construction practices.
• You have working knowledge and demonstrated ability to interpret and apply related legislative acts (Environmental Assessment Act, Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act, Drainage Act, etc.).

Communication, Interpersonal, Negotiation and Relationship - Building Skills

• You have communication and presentation skills to make presentations and represent the ministry as an expert witness on engineering related matters.
• You have relationship-building skills to establish effective working relationships with colleagues, associates, senior officials and the public.
• You have written communication skills to prepare, write, edit and/or present complex materials.
• You can negotiate with external service providers and consultants.

Project Management Knowledge

• You have knowledge of project management techniques required to manage projects of moderate size and complexity, including working knowledge of Value Engineering techniques.

Problem-Solving, Analytical and Decision-Making Skills

• You are able to identify problems and prepare reports and alternative recommendations on all engineering matters and technical matters.
• You are able to assess recommendations for technical adequacy and consistency to ministry policies.
• You have analytical and problem-solving skills to coordinate and develop infrastructure plans, conduct trade-off analysis, and produce listings of capital programs.
• You have strong analytical skills to prepare and recommend alternative designs balancing economic benefit, risk and environmental impact.
