Your opportunity:
Reporting to the Director, Data Strategy and Implementation, the Senior Project Lead is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the successful planning, implementation, and completion of projects in the Division of University Advancement (DUA). This individual will be key to delivering best in class quality deliverables, incorporating data governance process and policies, while fostering our Advancement values: Authentic Collaboration, Grateful Mindset, Intentional Inclusion, Trust and Transparency, Driving Impact.
The Senior Project Lead is responsible for leading and planning projects in the DUA, supporting advancement activities across the University of Toronto. These activities aim to engage the broadest possible range of constituents both within and outside the institution, including supporting divisional success in all solicitation, alumni engagement and related activities.
The incumbent will apply their technical knowledge to various projects within their portfolio that focus primarily on data and IT processes and promote data governance principles. Projects will include Data Classification and Tagging within IT databases; Data stewardship to manage data assets and 3rd party vendors; Data dictionary; Reporting Assessment and Review; Data Quality Management; and Educational outreach for new governance initiatives.
The Senior Project Lead will define scope, goals, and deliverables of complex projects with project sponsors, Information Management, Reporting Services, Business Intelligence & Analytics, or other divisional participants, with many projects having broad impact and long-term significance. The incumbent will act as a liaison, working in a collaborative team environment; the individual will possess strong communication skills and the ability to drive project delivery within expected timeframes and goals.
The incumbent will facilitate anddefine projects which include scope, schedules, resources, and risk management; this includes identification of objectives, deliverables, and success criteria; key stakeholders and communication plans will also be established. This individual requires the ability to motivate and lead project teams to ensure a common goal is achieved, while managing progress against a project timeline.
The Senior Project Lead will be responsible for identifying potential risks/uncertainties that may impact the project throughout the project lifecycle and develop contingency plans to mitigate risk. Communication will be a critical function of this role; the incumbent will establish effective communication channels between project team and stakeholders, build and maintain positive relationships with project stakeholders and provide frequent updates on progress, issues, and risks.
Your responsibilities will include:
-Advising clients and technical subject matter experts on best practice for documenting system requirements
-Analyzing business and operational requirements to plan the implementation of new IT systems
-Analyzing, troubleshooting and testing highly complex systems
-Preparing detailed analysis on complex risk assessments
-Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance
-Leading and planning IT projects
-Defining requirements and scope of complex projects with broad impact and long-term consequences
-Advising on cost, feasibility and impact of different implementation solutions
 
Essential Qualifications:
-Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or related certification would be an asset.
-Eight years or more of demonstrated experience in project management, preferably in an IT or related industry; familiarity with software and/or data projects and related business requirements.
-Demonstrated experience in project planning and delivery, creating realistic timelines, resource allocation and risk management.
-Experience leading and managing IT projects.
-Experiencewith adapting and incorporating changes and unforeseen challenges during project lifecycle.
-Experience in managing relationships with external vendors, understanding contracts, and ensuring deliverables meet project requirements.
-Experience with engaging with various stakeholders, including IT teams, executives, clients, and end-users, to ensure project success and satisfaction.
-Experience with analyzing, troubleshooting and testing complex systems ensuring seamless integration within these existing platforms.
-Familiarity with capabilities provided by governance solutions would be an asset (Alation, Ataccama, Collibra, Informatica, or Microsoft Purview).
-Ability to lead teams/meetings with effective decision-making skills and motivate teams in order to meet deadlines.
-Possess strong verbal and written communication skills for clear and concise interactions with sponsors, team members, and project participants, translate technical terms to non-technical stakeholders.
-Ability to manage stakeholder expectations, influence and gain buy-in.
-Proficient in project documentation: drafting of charters, schedules, other related project materials during project lifecycle.
-Strong grasp of data governance principles including data cataloging and quality, Principle of Least Privilege, data access policies.
-Ability to interpret and understand University policy with respect to data integrity, maintenance, privacy, and access of information.
-Ability to identify and manage risks specific to projects, including issues related to technology, security, and data privacy, and provide mitigation strategy in consultation with project team members.
-Ability to conceptualize and developprocesses and systems for project team and end users.
Assets (Nonessential):
-Proficiency in using Microsoft Project, Asana, or other Project Management-related software; Understanding of version control systems such as MS Teams Foundation Service is an asset.
-Possesses a solid understanding of IT concepts and technologies, which includes familiarity with programming languages, databases, data analysis tools and techniques, networks, and otherIT infrastructure to effectively plan and coordinate projects; familiarity with CRM systems is an asset.

USW Pay Band 18 -- $112,241 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $143,537. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
