Job Description Summary

Responsible for building the NPI assemblies. Responsible for DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFA (Design for Assembly) analysis while working with cross functional R&D teams. Responsible for generating and validating the associated Work Instructions and Photo Documentation for successful transfer of the NPI projects from prototype phase to manufacturing settings. Responsible for training and support of the manufacturing engineers and technicians to perform system integration in manufacturing setting.

Location: On site in Woodbridge, Canada

Job Responsibilities

·Assisting the R&D team in prototype builds.

·Assisting the R&D team in design process by identifying the areas for improvement via DFM/DFA (Design for Manufacturing/Design for Assembly) by applying basic principles and processes targeting the magnitude of parameters affecting manufacturing cost and quality. This will include preparing the DFM/DFA reports for R&D team and track the changes to be addressed during the proto/pilot stage of the project.

·Work closely with EE and ME teams by providing feedback related to the final system integration during product development.

·Work with Manufacturing engineers and R&D on tools and jigs required for production of the new designs.

·Preparation of Work Instructions and Photo Documentation for manufacturing.

·Assist transfer to production of successful prototype/R&D pilot designs, including training and support of production engineers.


Critical Skills

·Demonstrated skill building high complexity prototype instrumentation.

·Demonstrated skill preparing DFM/DFA technical reports.

·Demonstrated skill transferring the product proto/pilots to mass production.

·Demonstrated ability to interface with a multi-disciplinary technical team of scientists, hardware engineers, and firmware/software engineers.

·Demonstrated skill in reading complex mechanical drawings for parts and assemblies. Good understanding of mechanical design principles.

·Ability to perform tolerance analysis in case of critical assemblies.

·Excellent oral and written communication skills

·Role is on site in Woodbridge, Canada


Basic Qualifications

·Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering degree

·5 or more years of experience in manufacturing, prototyping, and testing of complex electromechanical systems, systems hardware.


Preferred Qualifications

·In depth understanding of NPI processes, DFM and DFA analysis, Manufacturing processes and general product development workflow.

·Familiarity with mass spectrometry technology, basic principles and general design features and configuration.

·Familiarity with Electrical and Pneumatic systems and their associated considerations an asset

Working Environment

·Must be able to work in a laboratory environment, including manipulating tools, instruments and components.

·Must be able to handle hazardous chemicals and chemical waste as required, in keeping will all local safety regulations.

·Must be able to lift 50 lbs. for handling of instrument assemblies.

·Documentation, writing, and report preparation is required.

·Occasional travel to manufacturing sites may be required.
