The TELUS Tax team provides critical expertise, consultation and counsel to the various entities and business groups, domestic and international, within TELUS. As trusted advisors, we help support complex business transactions with insights and recommendations that influence decisions made by stakeholder and senior leaders. As a Taxation Analyst and member of the extremely dynamic and growing Tax team you will be responsible for a broad range of US income tax functions for TELUS entities conducting business in the fast growing agriculture technology space as well as in other related technology and telecommunications verticals. As a strong team player you will be comfortable in actively supporting a broad range of initiatives including audits, appeals, tax compliance/filings, systems implementations, new product introductions and business process changes.
You will leverage your natural curiosity, and strong communication skills, each day to ask questions and actively explore opportunities to improve our compliance and other processes to drive efficiencies and profitability. Where opportunities present, you will confidently take on a central and pro-active role in bringing about change including demonstrating comfort in negotiating with various stakeholders.
As a highly organized and adaptable professional, you will be comfortable in managing competing priorities and working closely with your Tax and non-Tax colleagues to ensure that deadlines and other expectations are met. As a flexible performer, you will show your skills, as required, in transitioning from detail oriented work to a broader "bigger picture" approach. You will bring an aptitude for learning. You will be comfortable in shifting and re-allocating priorities in order to support evolving business and taxation needs.


Here's how


• Prepare tax working papers, tax analysis, and gathering of information to prepare US corporate and partnership tax returns as well as other US tax filings, including W-8 and W-9 requests
• Prepare quarterly estimated tax calculation and coordinate payments to various tax authorities
• Prepare business unit monthly and year-end US tax provisions under IFRS
• Calculate US earnings and profits
• Assistance with preparing responses to notices received from tax authorities to resolve any disputed issues
• Assistance with US tax planning opportunities
• Assist in managing TELUS' tax risk while complying with our Tax Strategy EN tax laws and working with internal and external stakeholders
• Work closely with Tax team and other TELUS teams to establish relationship of reliability, helpfulness and trust
• Build a solid understanding of existing compliance systems and processes (including control processes) and ensure that corresponding deliverables are timely provided
• Critically evaluate opportunities to improve on systems or processes, clearly articulate those opportunities and take key role in introducing change
• Actively collaborate with non-Tax stakeholders to better understand their priorities and seek out opportunities to improve outcomes in a mutually beneficial way
• Be comfortable in negotiating with other stakeholders to bring about positive change
• Openly embrace opportunities to learn new skills

• Valued for your 3+ years of US tax experience, in-depth income tax knowledge and strong technical competence
• Appreciated for your curiosity and learning mindset, initiative, creativity and drive for continuous process improvement, and adaptability when faced with change and/or ambiguity
• Strong working knowledge of MS Office suite, Google Workspace and the ability to grasp new technology tools.


Great-to-haves


• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
• US CPA or Canadian CPA designation
• Experience in preparing US corporate and partnership income tax returns in a public accounting firm or company
• Experience is preparing US tax provisions and knowledge of accounting standards relating to accounting for Income Taxes under IFRS
• Experience in dealing with tax authorities
• Skilled OneSource, and SAP is considered an asset
