Seniors’ Centre Without Walls Coordinator

Position: 45500

Type: Full time - 35 hours weekly

Term: 1 year contract

Location: Halifax Regional Municipality, work from home

Reports to: Executive Director, Spencer House

Estimated start date: February/early March 2024

Overview:

Seniors’ Centre Without Walls (SCWW) is a phone-based outreach program designed to increase social connection and reduce loneliness for isolated older adults from the comfort of their homes. Programming ranges from health and wellness speakers to games, music and cultural topics. In collaboration with a working group made up of representatives from the Shelburne County Mental Health & Wellness Association, Community Links, The Good Companions and Spencer House, the SCWW Coordinator/Moderator will plan, implement and evaluate the SCWW pilot program in Nova Scotia.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Design the pilot program (in collaboration with the working group)
  • Conduct outreach and engagement for the pilot program and recruit program participants
  • Prepare and distribute promotional material
  • Select weekly programming content (either from an existing database or by creating new programming)
  • Create a monthly program schedule
  • Connect with participants to explain the program and how the phone sessions will operate as well as answer any questions
  • Operate and train volunteers in the Mercuri phone system (used to host the SCWW phone-based programming)
  • Host a minimum of two 30-minute phone sessions per week with participants
  • Collect and maintain program records for evaluation purposes
  • Attend working group meetings and provide regular project updates
  • Collaborate with the working group on a final evaluation report
  • Attend staff meetings at Spencer House

Qualifications:

Experience

  • Post secondary education with emphasis on social services, community development, gerontology or a related focus. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • 2-4 years working with older adults
  • Program planning knowledge/experience
  • Facilitation experience would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of teleconferencing administration would be considered an asset

Operational Requirements

  • Negative police record check for working in the vulnerable sector

Position Details:

  • $45,500 (1 year contract)
  • Work from home
  • 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday
  • 2 weeks paid vacation
