Job description

SCG Remediation Services is a remediation equipment, technologies, and services provider, in the environmental remediation industry in Canada. We are based in Saint John NB with facilities in Ontario and Alberta.

Our clients, mainly consist of engineering firms, consultants, insurance companies, land developers, and land owners. SCG offers a wide range of services to support our clients in the management of soil and water contamination associated with accidents and industrial activities. Broadly, our suite of services falls into these interrelated categories:

  • Remedial Options Assessment and Evaluation Services
  • High Resolution Site Characterization Services
  • Remediation equipment design and manufacture.
  • In-Situ Remediation Services
  • Water Treatment Services

We have 30 years of technology manufacture and design experience as well as site specific application and operations. By acting as both the manufacturer and the operator, SCG has a unique perspective in site characterization, remedial option assessment, remedial action planning, and system design, operation, and application.

The SCG Shop Foreman role plays a crucial role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of their shop/manufacturing facility. They are responsible for managing the shop floor, supervising employees, ensuring quality control, and maintaining a safe and efficient working environment.

As a Shop Foreman, you will play a vital role in overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of the SCG shop. You will be responsible for supervising a team of technicians, ensuring that work is completed efficiently, accurately, and in a timely manner. Your strong leadership skills, technical knowledge, and problem-solving abilities will contribute to the success of the shop and the satisfaction of our customers.

Shop Foreman Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and manage a team of technicians, providing guidance, support, and training as needed.
  • Allocate work assignments to technicians and ensure that work is performed in accordance with established procedures and quality standards.
  • Monitor and review the progress of work orders, ensuring that deadlines are met, and any issues or delays are promptly addressed.
  • Conduct regular inspections of work in progress and completed repairs to ensure quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose complex mechanical issues or problems, providing technical expertise and guidance to technicians.
  • Coordinate and schedule maintenance and repair projects, ensuring that resources, equipment, and materials are available and utilized efficiently.
  • Maintain and update service records, including work orders, check lists, and supplier information, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies, promoting a safe and clean working environment for both employees and customers. SCG currently are currently in the final process of achieving their COR certification. This position will require an individual who has experience working within a COR certified work environment.
  • Collaborate with other departments and team members, to assist with job costing/budgeting, parts procurement and design which will help to facilitate smooth workflow and a quality end product.
  • Involved in design manufacturing processes which contribute to the development of project schedules, timelines, and milestones.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices, continuously enhancing your knowledge and skills to improve shop operations.

Shop Foreman Required Skills:

  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team effectively.
  • Excellent technical knowledge and expertise in automotive, machinery, electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Proficient in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical and mechanical issues or problems.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail and a proactive approach to finding solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with team members and suppliers.
  • Sound decision-making skills, with the ability to make informed judgments and handle unexpected situations or challenges.
  • Proficient in using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other relevant software or tools.
  • Have experience working with a Quality Control Program helping to contribute with efficient internal processes, fabrication records and administration.

Required Qualifications:

  • Tradesperson with High school diploma or equivalent. Technical or vocational training in electrical and/or mechanical trades is preferred.
  • Proven experience as a technician, with a strong understanding of mechanical systems and repair procedures.
  • The ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical shop drawings is considered a requirement. The Shop Foreman will be expected to attend meetings with the design team ahead of procurement and fabrication.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role, preferably in a shop or service center environment.
  • Maintaining a valid driver’s license is a requirement of this position. Travel away from the shop/office may occasionally be required. The position is not intended to primarily consist of travel, but overnight stays will occasionally be required especially when, attending site/client meetings, conducting work on sites or attending courses.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety regulations, compliance standards, and environmental guidelines.
  • Certification or licensure in relevant Mechanical or electrical trades.
  • Strong knowledge of shop equipment and tools, including diagnostic equipment and hand tools.
