THE OPPORTUNITY

Western Forest Products is seeking to hire a Silviculture Forestry Student for the upcoming 2024 field season at our Englewood Forest Operation in Woss, BC.

What You’ll Do: Our Forestry Student work closely with the Field Planners and Foresters to support our forest management and sustainability programs through various field activities related to silviculture and/or engineering layout. Terms are either 4 or 8 months with exciting opportunities to work and learn from the best in the industry!

Who You Are: This is a great opportunity for someone who is currently enrolled in or newly graduated from a forestry related post-secondary program and looking to gain hands on experience. We are looking for motivated and dependable individuals who are passionate about the industry. You have a great attitude, thrive in a team environment, and would enjoy the challenging working environment in our coastal forests. Whether you’re new in your school career looking for your first field experience, or a seasoned co-op or new graduate looking for your next challenge, we have something for you!

What We Offer:

  • Salary range of $47,000 - $52,000 based on skill level, qualifications, and experience
  • 4% Vacation pay in lieu

Work Environment: This position is to be performed in person at our Englewood Forest Operation in Woss, BC.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Our students assist in the preparation of various plans, assessments and reports associated with cut block development including site plans, harvest, road, silviculture and deactivation instructions, cutting permit submissions, road permit submissions, various engineering projects and preparation of other applications.

Silviculture students may be involved specifically in the following activities:

  • Site plan field work;
  • Planting checks;
  • Reporting;
  • Pile burning;
  • Brushing;
  • Creation of silviculture maps.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Currently enrolled in or recent graduate from a forestry related post-secondary program;
  • Previous forestry or related co-op work terms is an asset but not required.

Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies

  • Motivated and dependable;
  • Possess a strong work ethic;
  • Great attitude and thrive in a team environment;
  • In good physical condition;
  • Enjoys the challenging working environment in our coastal forests;
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license is required; and,
  • Interested in pursuing a career in the forest industry.
