Job description

Are you age 14+ and interested in refereeing soccer? In becoming a referee, you can work a flexible schedule and get paid to stay active and enjoy a sport you love, gain skills to add to your resume, and be part of a tight-knit community.

Registration will open mid-late February via https://www.refcentre.com/ontario/. To be put on a local list to receive email notice when registration opens, please contact beth.music@live.com or "apply" to this post.

To become a referee you must complete a registration form, a real- time webinar, self-guided modules, an exam, and a 4-hour, in- person practical session (in Peterborough on April 20th or in Cobourg on May 5th) through Ontario Soccer. Please do not send your resume to this post. You can only become a referee if you complete the required course through Ontario Soccer.

FAQ
How often will I be able to referee and how much money will I make per game?

Every local league offers different schedules and different fees
(dependent on the length of the game and age of the players). You can referee for as many clubs as you’d like and you should be able to expect at least one game per week.

How much does it cost to become a referee?
The Entry Level Course/Registration fee in 2023 was $135. Fees for
2024 are still to be released. The average beginner referee uniform kit costs approximately $70.

What if I already know I’m not available on April 20th or May 5th for the in-person practical sessions?

You can select a practical session taking place in another District when you register for the Entry-Level course.

Will I receive any supervision or support once I become a referee?
You can request in-person mentorship via the District’s Referee
Recruitment Officer/accredited mentors. You will also have support from a local Club Head Referee, and from fellow crew mates if you’re working in a game that has assistant referees. Our local referee community is caring and supportive!

Where will I be able to referee?
Anywhere in Ontario! More specifically, if you live in the ECOSA
District, this includes sanctioned soccer activities in
Northumberland County, Peterborough, Cavan, Kawartha Lakes,
Brighton, Hastings, Havelock, Tri-County, and Castleton.
