Job description

Title: Social Worker
Status: Full-time, Permanent Position
Pay Grid: Social Worker = $80,371.20 - $91,673.40 annually
Reporting to: Lil'wat Child & Family Services Manager


Summary of Duties:
The Social Worker provides support services to Lil’wat families both on and off reserve. The focus of this position is: 1. Advocacy and support for families involved with child protection services and 2. Providing education programs and services to families. The emphasis with all our services is on keeping children with their parents. When this is not possible, we advocate for placements within the Lil’wat community and/or with extended family.

Key Deliverables and Expectations:

  • Advocacy: Provide advocacy and support for families involved with child protection services on and off reserve. Attend provincial court, mediations, and family group conferences as a designated Lil’wat Nation representative.
  • Family Support: Provide individual and group prevention and skill enhancement services.
  • Family Preservation: Provide intensive family preservation and reunification services designed to strengthen and preserve families using flexible service methods that are determined by the family’s strengths and needs.
  • Facilitate culturally safe education programs on a variety of topics geared towards families.
  • Provide transportation of clients as necessary using personal vehicle.
  • Establish and maintain professional files while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Maintain weekly updates with supervisor regarding all assigned families.
  • Maintain monthly records of work completed and in manner assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as requested.

Experience and Attributes:

  • Completion of a Bachelor in Social Work, as a minimum; willing to support the right applicant in the process of becoming a Registered Social Worker, if desired. (Wage listed is reflective of a Registered Social Worker).
  • Education and previous relevant work experience with First Nations people in related services, minimum of two years work experience preferred. Previous experience in Lil’wat community is an asset.
  • Experience facilitating group education programs.
  • Knowledge of effective and evidence based parenting approaches.
  • Knowledge of financial management, household routines, and stress management.
  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to strict confidentiality requirements.
  • Demonstrated skills in planning, organizing and researching.
  • Ability to work effectively with a team and establish good working relationships with clients and staff.
  • Strong stress management skills, initiative, positive approach, and ability to work independently.
  • Comfortable using various means of technology (computer, cell phone, virtual meeting platforms).
  • Must be able to provide a clear Criminal Record Check, vulnerable sector.
  • Must have a valid Class 5 license and a reliable vehicle for travelling and transporting when required.
  • Comfortable with flexible work hours including some evenings.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Highly professional in all aspects of business and interaction with all stakeholders, clients, and Members.
