About the Role:

We are looking for a talented and experienced Development Team Lead to lead the Software Development Team through both hands-on development and mentorship to expand the capabilities of our Apps (Uptime and Theme Updater Plus) and Themes. As the Development Team Lead, you will report directly to the CEO and you will be responsible for shipping quality software through technical direction and collaboration with the Product team. This includes building and scaling new features both personally and through the team, supporting the team’s technical and career development, and working with leadership to ensure the Development Team is building in the right direction.

Responsibilities

Technical Direction

• Own the technical direction and strategy for all projects.
• Get hands-on with development of key products and features
• Provide technical guidance and expertise to ensure that the solutions we commit to are well informed
• Collaborate with Product on sprint planning, product scoping, and discovery to ensure alignment with our technical capabilities.
• Clearly communicate the costs and risks of different technical solutions to the Product team to help inform their decisions.
• Quickly surface changes to expectations as they arise to ensure that the team is aware of any shifts in direction.

• Ensure the products are secure, stable, and scalable

Team Leadership

• Coach, mentor and develop a high performing remote Software Development team
• Drive the Software Development life cycle and work with the Dev team to translate overall product vision into highly executable project plans
• Set clear and realistic milestones for the Dev team
• Own professional development initiatives, coaching, and training to foster a culture of learning and growth.
• Manage a team of individual contributors and Team Leads to ensure that they have the necessary resources and support to deliver exceptional work.

Skills and Qualifications

• At least 7 years of experience in Software Development.
• At least 2 years of experience in senior and/or Team Leadership roles.
• An excellent understanding of Software Development principles and methodologies.
• A strong technical background and experience with modern technologies.
• Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

• Experience with Ruby on Rails, Node.js, React, GitHub, and cloud hosting platforms

Compensation:

We are offering a compensation of $135,000 - $150,000 CAD. We take a holistic approach to compensation at Pixel Union. Total compensation includes Salary, benefits, RRSP, ESPP, an annual education allowance and other perks.
