Our Team:

Our Newfoundland and Labrador Operations are an integrated mining, milling, and processing operation. Nickel concentrates from the fly-in, fly-out Voisey's Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds, and copper cathodes.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Procurement Specialist, to join our Procurement Team to service St. Johns/Long Harbour/Voisey's Bay.

The Procurement Specialist will act as an extension of the Local, Regional and Global Procurement teams in the field for all commercial aspects of the supplier agreements. You will be required to interact and establish key relationships with procurement personnel, plant personnel, management, and the contractor performance management team.

The roles accountabilities will include:

  • Act as the key account representative for Operations on behalf of Procurement. Building relationships while balancing expectations of Procurement with Operations will be essential.
  • Review and approve the use of an emergency procurement process and provide follow up.
  • Provide guidance and procurement expertise to other analysts and operations when required.
  • Coordinate and provide input and alignment to local, regional and global category and sourcing strategies.
  • Coordinate kick off meetings and ensure the Vale Procurement Model (VPM) for local, regional and global processes are followed.
  • Reactively address supply issues and proactively identify supplier risks, perform root cause analysis, and make recommendations to resolve critical issues. Work on new supplier development.
  • Identify the need for procurement and operations process training and seek solutions.
  • Lead and/or participate on various teams requiring Procurement consultation.
  • Recognize when to escalate critical issues.
  • On site 5 times per week with frequency to Voisey Bay.
  • Travel will be frequently expected between all sites in Canada; with a focus on the Voisey's Bay Operations, Long Harbour Operations and Manitoba Operations.

About You

Education:

  • An Undergraduate Degree or College Diploma within Business, Finance or a related field.
  • Certification in a professional association (C.E.T, PMAC) an asset.

Experience:

  • 5+ years' experience related to procurement.
  • Experience from mining, petrochemical or heavy manufacturing industry is preferred.
  • SAP experience an asset.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Travel to Voisey's Bay fly in fly our operation at a minimum of 1 week per month.
  • Must be willing to attend all local plant locations (Long Harbor/St. Johns) up to five days a week.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement principles and processes, Canadian contract law, commercial terms and supporting business systems and tools
  • Understand RFP processes, protocols and industry best practices.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience in the use of analytical tools such as MS Excel
  • Strong relationship management skills, both with internal clients and suppliers
  • Organized, self-motivated and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
