Job Summary

As a part of BC Corrections , the Community Corrections Division is responsible for the supervision and support of approximately 18, 000 people subject to court imposed community supervision orders. Job Requirements:
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree (4 years; 120 credits) from a recognized Canadian Institution,with a minimum of 35% of the credits at 300 & 400 level courses.
  • If post-secondary education was obtained outside of Canada, the applicant must contact the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES)for a Comprehensive Report which will evaluate the credentials, confirm the language of instruction, and determine comparable levels in BC or Canadian terms. Documentation must be provided to the closing location by the closing date. **Please see the Applicant Information Package if the post-secondary education was instructed in a language other than English.
  • CORR1000: The Adult Probation Officer.**Please see the Applicant Information Package for applicantsexempt from the prerequisite course.

Experience
  • No recent job-specific experience: Growth Series Level 1
  • 6-12 months recent job-specific experience: Growth Level 2
  • 12-18 months recent job-specific experience: Growth Level 3
  • 18-24 months recent job-specific experience: Growth Level 4
  • 2 years recent job-specific experience: SPO 24 Full Working Level (steps 2-5)
  • Computer experience and keyboarding speed of a minimum of 30 wpm

**Recent experience refers to experience obtained in Adult Community Corrections as a Probation Officer in the preceding five years: experience must be gained after completing the education required (not before or during).
Preference will be given to those applicants who have the following:
  • As this competition is to create an eligibility to hire applicants for training purposes, preference will be given to those applicants who havenot commenced or completed their PO 14 and/or PO basic training.
  • Preference will be given to those applicants that have at least twelve months case management experience working with adults who are involved in the criminal justice system and/or working with vulnerable adults.

Overnight travel to remote locations and working outside typical work hours may be required and a valid BC driver's license is required.

Successful candidates must submit to and successfully pass a criminal record check and fingerprint screening by RCMP or municipal police, a Criminal Record Review Act check and JUSTIN and CORNET provincial database checks. New criminal record checks will be conducted periodically and at least every five years.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 1 day at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
