General Accountabilities

  • Reporting to the Grid Operations Field Manager, at the Bruce Service Centre, the successful candidate’s primary accountabilities will be to establish and maintain an operational relationship between Bruce Power (the “Customer”) and Hydro One (the “Company” or “HONI”) on day-to-day and long-term activities affecting the customer's ability to generate and Hydro One's requirement to effectively maintain the Transmission system.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Have an integral knowledge of the nuclear site, which would include protection and control systems and high voltage equipment at both the Customer site and HONI stations.
  • Represent the Station Services on all Switchyard Oversight Committee (SWOC), sub committee's as well as support Senior Management at the main SWOC. This also provides continuity for all Company LOB's that deal with Customer.
  • Assist Director, Superintendent, GOFM and field Supervisors on day-to-day matters (both technical and general) that arise between the Company and the Customer.
  • Support long term planner during weekly outage planning meetings between the Company and the Customer.
  • Directly interface with the Customer’s Switchyard Oversight Manager and Coordinator.
  • Create and present High Risk Evolution (HRE) documents for outages deemed to be HRE by the Customer and defend the outages during challenge sessions.
  • Review pertinent Standards & Policies (SPs), Network Management Instructions (NMI's) and Business Process Documents (BPDs), including other documents that reference the Customer for up-to-date accuracy and make recommendations for relevant changes.
  • Participate in a yearly review of the Transmission Connection Agreement (TCA) schedule A, with Account Executives to ensure accuracy during large capital upgrades.
  • Review Customer's Operations Memo's that reference the HONI Switchyards for accuracy and relevance.
  • Provide technical advice to the Customer and other Company LOB's (i.e., Large Customer Key Accounts, Asset Management Project/Program Mgmt and Engineering to name a few).
  • Review Customer Innage Request for Proposals (RFP) with Work Program Management and recommend changes as required.
  • Utilize tools such as SAP, Field Glass, Learning Management System, SailPoint etc. as directed to support HRE defense and manage unescorted access to the Switchyards for Customer’s representatives and contractors.
  • Maintain CIP14 (North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC policy)) switchyard requirements for unescorted access to the Switchyards for Customer’s representatives and contractors.
  • Supporting Senior Management with details of significant events affecting the switchyards and how the event affects the Customer.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Selection Criteria:

  • Requires a good knowledge of electrical theory and the operating characteristics of protection and control and high voltage equipment, for operation and maintenance of power generation, and transmission systems.
  • Requires a good knowledge of English to prepare extensive written documentation and to provide technical advice and guidance to others and participate in the preparation of designs and specifications. This knowledge is normally acquired through the completion of 4 years of university training or equivalent experience (Grade XII plus 5 years).
  • Requires broad experience to be familiar with the wide variety of intricate protection and control equipment, and high voltage switchyard equipment, as it applies to lines, stations, and Nuclear Power Generating equipment.
  • Requires experience in safety procedures and practices related to protection and control and high voltage stations equipment and how it impacts the Customer.
  • Requires extensive experience to be familiar with the intricate make up of the Bruce site, understanding the differences between the two nuclear stations and how HONI work impacts Bruce Power.
  • A period of over 8 years and up to and including 10 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
  • Requires the ability to determine the most practical and efficient methods for carrying out work programs under common and uncommon circumstances.
  • Requires evaluating all factors relating to the situation, considering past practice and precedent, past similar circumstances and attempting to develop an approach consistent with sound economic and technical practices.
  • Requires the ability to deal with unprecedented technical problems at the time of occurrence and making recommendations to HONI minimizing the impact to Bruce Power.
  • Work assignments arise from operational issues that occur between HONI and Bruce Power.
  • Requires the ability to pivot quickly interfacing with Field Supervisors to provide information to Senior Management.
  • Requires planning, organizing, and communicating strategic plans to address technical issues between the HONI & Bruce Power from a Stations perspective.
  • Requires providing advice and guidance to staff and recommending possible solutions.
  • Requires developing and revising work methods and procedures to improve work operations.
  • Requires Interpersonal, organizing, technical, analytical, and negotiation skills to affectively perform this role.
