Job Summary
A wonderful position for an Engineering generalist with leadership and expertise in oversight.
The Ministry of Forests is responsible for supporting a sustainable and competitive future for B.C.'s forest sector, while taking action to keep forests healthy and protect communities in the face of climate change and extreme weather events.
The Engineering Specialist provides engineering expertise and advice to operational staff and works closely with the District Engineering Officer, the Engineering Team, and Branch to ensure the environmental; construction and legislative requirements on Forest Service Roads are met in accordance with the Engineering Program Funding Policy.
This roleis focused on administering the district resource road network.

This includes implementing engineering projects, interacting with permit holders, stakeholders and the public, contract management, road and bridge maintenance, resource road inspections, and road design to support the achievement of program and project objectives.
Job Requirements:
  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Forest Technologist or equivalent with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC). Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to FPBC within six (6) months of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
  • Diploma, or higher, in forestry, in civil engineering or a related field (i.e. forest engineering, survey geomatics, geoscience), or natural resource field (i.e. forestry).
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preference may be given to those with one or more of the following:
  • Experience managing relationships with stakeholders and/or First Nations' communities.
  • Experience in project and/or contract management.
  • One (1) or more years of experience in one (1) or more of the following areas:
  • Road, bridge and major structures design/layout; and/or,
  • Road construction and maintenance; and/or,
  • Post-fire recovery and rehabilitation work.

Provisos:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid BC Driver's Class 5 Licence or equivalent.
  • May be required to operate a variety of field equipment.
  • Must be willing and able to withstand the rigors of field work.
  • Must be willing and able to work in all/adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to meet job requirements.
  • Must comply with the safety standards of the Ministry and WorkSafe BC.

Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service, which may include a criminal records check, and/or Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) check, and/or enhanced security screening checks as required by the Ministry.
