Natural Resource Information & Digital Services (NRIDS) is the information management/information technology (IM/IT) service provider and organizational partner to the Natural Resource Ministries (NRM). As the centralized authority for all information, geospatial data, and technology across the NRM, NRIDS is leading the transformation and modernization of business practices through new and innovative technology solutions, continuous improvement projects and operational IM/IT solutions.
The Radio Communications Technologist reports to the Senior Radio Communications Technologist and provides technical services and analysis to ministry staff within the Natural Resource Sector. The Radio Technologist position repairs, installs and upgrades radio, wireless and data communications support services for emergency Wildfire communications and electronic weather data support, assists with radio system training to Natural Resource Ministry staff, and provides support for the ministries radio systems network to meet its operational mandate in order to maintain year-round safety communications for staff and for the general public during emergency situations.

Job Requirements:
  • A Diploma from a recognized 2-year Electronics Technologist program (This program is accredited at the level of Engineering Technologist by the Applied Science Technologists and Technologists of British Columbia) or equivalent and 2 years of related experience as a technologist in the Radio Communications field.
  • Related experience may include experience in:
    • Radio frequency system design which includes, VHF, UHF and RF (Radio Frequency) communications principles and practices data communications, wireless and ground-based protocols, which include radio and wireless communications systems and components, corrective solutions for Radio Frequency intermodulation and electromagnetic interference.
    • IP (Internet Protocol) Suite, including, TCP (Transmission Control Protocol), IP(IPv4 and IPv6), UDP (User Datagram Protocol), DCCP (Datagram Congestion Control Protocol), DHCP (Dynamic Host Control Protocol), HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) and Voice over IP and Radio over IP.
    • Power systems and distribution including 120 Volt AC and 12 Volt DC wiring, solar and charging systems, grounding.
    • Reading, interpret schematics, topographical maps, and other technical information.
    • Surface mount multi-layer soldering methods and soldering with microscopes.
    • Preparing personal computers, windows operating systems to configure for communications needs.
    • Instructing users on the capabilities and operation of radio equipment and systems.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may also be considered.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following experience:
  • Experience in software language programming.
