The Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation (MIRR) is the primary source of leadership to the Province in restructuring its relationship with First Nations based upon mutual respect, recognition and reconciliation of aboriginal rights and title. MIRR is mandated with primary responsibility for the development and implementation of treaties and representing the interests of the Province and its citizens in the development and negotiation of comprehensive land claims settlements, revenue sharing, reconciliation and other forms of agreements. The ministry is central to the government's vision of creating sustainable aboriginal communities through strategies including closing the socio-economic gap, cultural recognition, economic development and the negotiation of treaties and other forms of lasting agreements.
The RCO is part of a dynamic regional team that works closely with negotiations staff from Negotiations and Regional Operations Division (NROD) and the two other Divisions in MIRR to lead regional engagement with First Nations and develop innovative approaches to achieving the Ministry's mandate and advancing Government's relationships with First Nations, industry, and the public. The RCO provides professional services through provision of research, analysis and decision support on issues related to the achievement of reconciliation with regard to land and resource matters, including the negotiation and implementation of lasting agreements with First Nations. This includes coordinating with other NRS ministries, managing all phases of complex projects and providing decision support and briefing materials for negotiations. The position will support the development of resilient relationships with First Nations and the implementation of regional strategies to advance the provincial economy, job creation, economic diversification, and revenue to the Crown and advance First Nations' involvement in land and resource administration.
Job Requirements:
• A bachelor's degree in a resource management related field (i.e. land planning, forestry, geography, natural resource management, land management, agriculture, natural resource biology, environmental law/management, urban/regional land use planning, land surveying, geology, engineering related to natural resources, science, public/business administration, resource management, geoscience); OR,
• An equivalent combination of education, experience and training from a recognized institution may be considered.
• A minimum of two (2) years' experience researching and analyzing Indigenous issues, history and political structures and supporting the development of options and negotiation strategies.
• A minimum of two (2) years' experience coordinating public consultation processes dealing with land use and resource management issues involving federal, provincial and local government jurisdictions.
• A minimum of two (2) years' experience using project management tools, techniques and tracking systems and participate in multiple concurrent projects, independently or in teams within time and resource constraints and demonstrated experience adapting to changing priorities, emergent issues, competing and conflicting demands.
Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:
• Two (2) or more years' experience participating in interest-based negotiations and conflict and dispute resolution.
• Two (2) or more years' experience working on projects that foster long-term and respectful inter-agency and First Nations stakeholder relationships.

About this Position:
This is a temporary opportunity until July 7, 2024 and may be extended or become permanent.
This position can be based in any of the following Indigenous Relations & Reconciliation offices: Quesnel, 100 Mile, Cranbrook, Fort St John, Kamloops, Nanaimo, Prince George, Smithers, Surrey, and Williams Lake.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 5 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
Travel is required for this position.
