Job Summary

BC Parks is responsible for the designation, management and conservation of a system of ecological reserves, provincial parks and recreation areas located throughout the province. British Columbia's parks and protected areas contain nationally and internationally significant natural and cultural features and outdoor experiences.
The key function of the Conservation Coordinator is to support the Conservation Specialist with the implementation of conservation-based Licence Plate Program projects. Conservation Coordinators provide and apply technical expertise, advice, and analysis to conservation projects, including projects aimed at informing and improving park management. Planning, coordinating and implementing conservation projects in parks and protected areas is a key part of the role. The position also coordinates and supports conservation-related work involving other staff, volunteers, and/or contractors.
Job Requirements:
  • Completed related degree or two (2)-year diploma in a Natural Resource Management related field (related field may include: Biology, Geology, Geography, Recreational Planning, Outdoor Recreation, Forestry, Fisheries, Anthropology); OR,
  • Secondary school graduation (or equivalent) and two (2) years' related experience (related experience can include: park system (operations), conservation, outdoor recreation, forestry, any earth sciences, recreation planning).

Preference may be given to applicants with:
  • Experience in parks and protectedareas management
  • Experience in contract and/or financial agreement management
  • Experience planning, coordinating, and implementing natural resource-related projects
  • Experience in data collection, organization, entry, and simple data analysis
  • Experience preparing technical reports and other types of communication (e.g., interpretive signs, Q&A's, training, and presentations)

Provisos:
  • Valid B.C. class 5 or 7N driver's licence or an equivalent class driver's license from another province or jurisdiction.
  • Meet safety standards of Work Safe BC.
  • Conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
  • May be required to operate a variety of equipment.

This is a temporary opportunity until 03/31/2025.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
