Job Summary
Join the Recreation Sites & Trails team in a unique opportunity to work in BC's outdoor recreation sector.
Forest recreation is one of the core business areas identified in the strategic and service plans of the Ministry of Environmental and Climate Change Strategy. The Recreation Sites and Trails BC Branch is a provincial program delivered through a headquarters office in Victoria, four regions, and 20 districts across the Province. The purpose of the Branch is to plan, develop, maintain, and manage a significant, diverse, and valuable network of 1700+ recreation sites and 500+ recreation trails to provide safe, quality recreational opportunities for the residents of, and visitors to British Columbia. In collaboration with other agencies and a wide variety of stakeholders, the Branch manages public recreation use on Crown land in British Columbia (outside of areas managed by BC Parks and other settled recreational areas). Recreation sites and trails are, in great part, managed through the use of service contracts and partnership agreements, negotiated with a variety of partners and stakeholders.
BC offers a host of exceptional recreation opportunities and you can be a member of the Recreation Sites and Trails team that works to manage and maintain BC's backcountry recreation sites and trails. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the management of a network of recreational facilities in the Peace- Fort Nelson Recreational District. The Recreation Technician regularly interacts with First Nations, and a variety of highly engaged stakeholders (e.g., community representatives, commercial tourism operators, recreation clubs, NGO's, and government agencies) to participate in shared initiatives, respond to problems and issues, and to inform, educate and communicate the objectives and program goals of the Recreation Sites and Trails Branch.
As an integral member of the Recreation Sites and Trails team, the Recreation Technician role will provide invaluable experience for individuals seeking a career in recreation management. Your strong interpersonal skills and high-energy enthusiasm will augment your technical and infrastructure management skills as you work to ensure public safety, minimize environmental risks, and represent the Province as a local leader in recreation site and trail operations. In order to succeed in this job, you will need to be flexible and independent with the ability to re-assess your work priorities daily.
