The Ministry of Forests is responsible for the stewardship of provincial Crown land and ensures the sustainable management of forest, wildlife, water and other land-based resources. The Ministry works with Indigenous and rural communities to strengthen and diversify their economies.
Reporting to an excluded manager at the Strategic Leadership level, the Planning Assistant and Research Team Lead is accountable for the supervision of staff at the professional or specialist level. This position manages staff and financial resources, ensures achievement of and evaluates the outcomes of program goals and applies legislation, policies and professional standards. The Planning Assistant and Research Team Lead leads projects and strategic initiatives to address large-scale and controversial issues within its geographic area.

Job Requirements:

  • Degree in the natural resource field or equivalent AND minimum 2 years of related experience OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered
  • Experience in negotiating and mediating solutions with stakeholders in natural resource management.
  • Experience in regulatory management in the applicable natural resource field.
  • Experience managing technical and/or professional staff in resource management or infrastructure development.
  • Experience supervising, leading coaching and mentoring staff.

Willingness Statements:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent.
  • May require the operation of a variety of equipment

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
