Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Compute and Storage, this position delivers technical analysis, design, implementation, support and operations of IMT services and projects. Work performed will utilize IT Incident, Problem, Change, Project, Service and Capacity Management principles to achieve innovative solutions to a variety of complex problems.
This position is responsible for the integrated operations of block, file, and backup storage infrastructure that supports server virtualization, discrete server hosting, and end-user cloud storage for the GoA. It is the service owner for these services, supported by subject matter experts in each technology stream. This includes understanding how clients utilize a service and whether it is providing value. It also adds a level of strategic planning extending over multiple years.
The Team Lead Storage Operations is expected to support the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) approach to IT Service Management and to adhere to GoA Security Directives, Enterprise Architecture Standards and Federal and Provincial Protected A, B and C standards. This position supervises the activities of a group of system analysts that are responsible for Storage Operations.


This position will provide acting manager duties as required.


Finally, the incumbent is required to acquire and maintain an enhanced or where necessary a top-secret security clearance and be prepared to undertake call-out assignments as necessary. The position will create and maintain new IMT Services used within the Government of Alberta and by the general public.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • University degree in Computer Sciences, Information Technology or a related field.
  • 4 years of experience in Enterprise storage and data protection systems.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain an enhanced or where necessary a top-secret security clearance.


Equivalencies: Equivalencies will be considered:

  • A related two-year diploma in computer technology or a related discipline from a recognized postsecondary institution and six years related experience; or
  • A related one-year certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution and seven years related experience.


Assets:

  • Experience in computer science concepts and methodologies (software, infrastructure, programming, network and mainframe products, and systems management).
  • Experience in project management.
  • Experience in management/ supervision/leadership in a team environment, providing direction, mentoring junior employees and working within deadline constraints.
  • Strong communication skills to explain IT concepts, consult with stakeholders and provide guidance.
  • Knowledge and understanding of technologies employed, such as Windows (2016 - 2022), VMware/Hyper-V, SOLARIS and/or Red Hat Linux Systems experience and training.
  • Knowledge of Government IT policies and legislation and an understanding of its application on related assignments.
