Job description

Under the general supervision of the Inventory Systems Coordinator and the Supervisor of Stores, this position is responsible for delivering oxygen, linen, equipment and station supplies to EMS/Fire stations, retrieving soiled medical equipment from hospitals, picking up drug orders from the hospital, and various other deliveries/pick-ups/procurements from various vendors. The Storekeeper 1 receives, fills and verifies orders for medical supplies from stations, and assists at the Stores counter issuing clothing, safety, and station supplies. The Storekeeper 1 is also responsible for cleaning equipment and other duties consistent with the classification.

As the Storekeeper 1 (Part-Time) you will:

  • Pick up and Deliver oxygen, deliver equipment, medical and station supplies to EMS/Fire stations.
  • Retrieve soiled medical equipment from hospitals and process cleaning.
  • Procure and pick up various items from vendors.
  • Fill, verify orders and expense the inventory for the stations.
  • Assist at the Stores counter issuing clothing, safety, and station supplies in Peoplesoft.
  • In accordance with safety procedures, clean medical equipment, vehicles and maintains vehicle bay and storage cage.
  • Perform other related duties consistent with the classification, as required.

Your education and qualifications include:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Familiar with storekeeping activities (6 months prior related work experience).
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Full Driver's License (or provincial equivalent).
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer in a Windows environment. Demonstrated basic proficiency (65%) in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Peoplesoft Purchasing and Inventory System, with the ability to navigate the internet.
  • Knowledge of materials handling and safe work practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other departmental personnel, as well as a variety of contacts including outside vendors.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workloads.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and to work in fast paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and work independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to perform minor mathematical calculations required to order and account for materials.
  • Knowledge of medical equipment would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of collective agreements would be an asset.
  • Ability to carry out stores related clerical duties.

  • The successful candidate must be physically capable of performing the duties of this position – including considerable standing, bending, crawling, lifting, climbing, pulling and reaching, heavy lifting over 50lbs.
  • Willingness and ability to work in adverse conditions (i.e. dry, humid and/or dusty air, confined spaces, heights).
  • Knowledge and understanding of the requirements in four Collective Agreements regarding clothing allotments (within 3 months of the appointment).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of inventory systems in place (within 6 months of the appointment).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of goods / materials in inventory (within 6 months of the appointment).
  • Thorough knowledge of all relevant policies and procedures (within 3 months of the appointment).
  • Willingness and ability to successfully complete additional training relevant to this position, as determined by WFPS management and within the timeframes specified by WFPS management (i.e. Transportation of Dangerous Goods).
