Your opportunity:
Working under the direction of the Student Life Officer, International Programs, and taking general guidance from the Assistant Directors, International Programs, the Student Life Assistant is part of a team that implements services and programs for students (high school and undergraduate) attending the various programs offered by the International Programs Office, such as the International Foundation Program (IFP) and the International English Programs (IEP). The Student Life Assistant works to maintain the smooth operations of extra and co-curricular events, assists with social program activities, and works to engage and involve students in all Student Life initiatives.
As a member of the New College International Programs Office, the Student Life Assistant, International Programs, will be committed to an equity that recognizes, supports, and responds to the diverse histories, lived and marginalized experiences of international students and many communities.
Your responsibilities will include:
-Providing detailed information to students on programs, program logistics, registration, and events
-Responding to enquiries within the defined scope of the role and redirecting as appropriate
-Checking for completeness of applications, performing routine data entry, and updating and maintaining database records
-Collating and organizing data for various reports
-Formatting layout of and updating information digital platforms
-Providing basic support and general referrals to individuals in distress
-Making minor purchases
-Providing orientation to new employees and/or students
 
Essential Qualifications:
 
-Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
-Minimumtwo years of recent and related experience administering Student Life activities to support international language learners, preferably in a post-secondary education institution.
-Relevant experience working with international students in a university residence setting.
-Experience working with and providing front-line support to high school-aged, university-aged, and mature international students.
-Experience coordinating the logistics of events in a cross-cultural context.
-Experience recording and collecting data, and producing standard reports.
-Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
-Demonstrated skills in updating information on social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.).
-Intermediate skills in StarRez, or similar student information systems.
-Excellent oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills.
-Excellent ability to organize, prioritize, and adapt to ongoing changes in priorities.
-Demonstrated strong student and client service orientation and experience fostering equity, diversity and inclusion in a language-learning environment.
Assets (Nonessential):
 
-Professional working proficiency in a different language or languages other than English.
-Knowledge and/or experience of New College and its programs.
-Knowledge and/or experience with policies and procedures at the Faculty of Arts and Science.
