STUDENT JOB - SUMMER 2024

Conservation and Preservation

As a student Microfadeometry and Conservation Science for the Collection, CMH Division and member of the Conservation team, (reporting to the Manager, Conservation and Preservation) you will:

Assemble and make operational the museum’s Microfade Tester for the purpose of determining light stability of objects in the collection;

Work with specialist software for the collection and analysis of data, and the subsequent use of this data for research purposesWork with Conservators to create standards for internal use. Once operational, conduct testing using artefacts from the CMH collection and collect initial datasets for internal use;

Collect and handle sensitive physical sample material;

Work with Conservators and other staff and use X-Ray Fluorescence to collect new targeted data sets from artefacts in the CMH collection, time permitting.

What we are looking for:

Undergraduate student in a Physics, Engineering, Optical Technology (Photonics), or Science degree program.

Recent and relevant experience in:

The operation and maintenance of scientific analytical or testing equipment in a lab setting;

Planning and executing research projects, both individually and in a team setting;

The creation and manufacture of innovative tools, hardware, and equipment for research or hobby (an asset).

Knowledge:

Principles of organic and inorganic analysis;

Occupational health and safety principles and practices;

Various computer application software including MS Office Suite;

Principles of optical engineering (an asset).

Eligibility criteria:

Must be a full-time student at College or University;

Must be returning to full-time studies next session (a proof will be required);

Bilingualism: BBB;

Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Working conditions:

37.5 hours per week;

Ability to lift up to 15 kg (33 lb);

Ability to employ and work in personal protective equipment (PPE);

Hybrid-Flexible work possible: 4 days on site per week, 1 day remote, with flexibility for more as required.

Compensation: $21.24/hour to $23.62/hour – variation according to the student’s level of education

Duration: May 27, 2024 to August 16, 2024

Workplace: 100, Laurier Street, Gatineau, Quebec

Security Clearance: Enhanced Reliability
